Position Title: Engineering Program Mentor
Location: Vaughn Next Century Learning Center (San Fernando Valley)
Summary: Program Mentors serve as near peer mentors and role models at DIY Girls and receive training to engage students in creative projects that develop technical and problem-solving skills. Mentors will research, develop and prototype innovative maker activities, and leverage some of them to create projects for the DIY Girls programs. This is a great opportunity to develop technical and leadership skills that will aid in future career opportunities.
The Program Mentor will work with the Executive Director and Director of Programs to ensure quality in the following areas:
Curriculum and Project Development
Classroom Management and Set up
Equipment Management
Program Facilitation and Mentoring of Students
Availability:
March 30, 2015 -June 15, 2015 (12 - 15 hours per week)
Applicants must be available for during the following time slots:
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 11:30 PM 3:30 PM
Responsibilities:
Serve as program mentor to 240 4th grade students (boys and girls) in the DIY Girls Engineering Enrichment program (class size: 25)
Assist with developing and and testing hands-on projects
Maintain hardware, software and equipment to ensure tools are appropriately setup for the classes
Create an online portfolio of projects developed
Other duties as assigned with a primary focus on supporting program instruction and project development
Qualifications: All candidates should have a passion for DIY Girls’ mission, excellent organization skills, and consistency and reliability. Additional qualifications include:
Independent, results- oriented, selfstarter
Interest in technology, engineering and hands-on DIY projects
