Futures Without Violence is a dynamic national organization committed to ending violence against women and children around the world. We seek a dedicated, energetic, and creative individual to join our work through a six month internship.

INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:

Futures Without Violence seeks an intern to work on innovative public education campaigns alongside a diverse set of staff members. Organizing students, coaches, educators, violence prevention advocates, and other professionals, the intern will have an opportunity to work on public education campaigns that inspire diverse audiences across the country to speak out and act to prevent violence in their schools and communities.

The Public Education intern will work closely with Futures Without Violence staff members to expand and manage the social media presence for various programs, draft content for websites and social media, and help define the strategic direction of FUTURES’ suite of groundbreaking public education programs.

There are two, six-month long Paid Internship terms per year, February-July and August-January.

INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES & LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Learning Objectives:

As a result of this internship, intern will be better able to:

Plan and implement strategic online communications;
Draft content targeted to specific audiences (i.e., teens, coaches, etc.);
Appropriately utilize a variety of tools to reach diverse audiences, including social media, email, websites, etc.;
Articulate complex issues related to violence against women to inspire action for change;
Work as part of a diverse team of staff and program partners.

Roles and responsibilities:

Intern will provide online community management for public education campaigns, including moderating online conversations, messages, and content.
Intern will maintain and manage the voice and online presence specifically for That’s Not Cool, a national campaign to prevent teen dating violence. Intern will manage the community of That’s Not Cool Ambassadors, providing weekly posts on the website and on social media, creating monthly challenges, and following up with Ambassadors and the community’s needs.
Intern will provide support for a variety of FUTURES’ constituents – including teens and young adults as well as violence prevention advocates and educators – answering calls and responding to requests for information regarding public education programs.
Intern will also be expected to provide some administrative support, including coordinating meetings, trainings, conference calls, etc; preparing meeting agendas, materials, and taking minutes; performing general administrative duties such as photocopying and compiling program materials; and helping organize work that supports executive and program decision making.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

A successful candidate for this internship position will:

Have previous experience with social media marketing and outreach.
Have strong social networking skills on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pintrest, and Tumblr. Prior online organizing experience is a must.
Have strong organizational skills, and the ability to think creatively and strategically about engaging diverse audiences in a social issue.
Have prior experience working with youth, preferably in a non-profit setting.
Hold strong interest in the issue of violence against women, or a desire to learn more about the field of violence prevention.
Exhibit strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a diverse team.
Have prior experience conducting research, and the ability to think strategically about potential partnerships.
Have proven organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate meetings with multiple stakeholders from across the country.
Exhibit strong creativity and flexibility, and the ability to work on multiple projects.
Be able to work independently, as needed, with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Have an excellent command of contemporary computer skills, office hardware, PC software (Windows environment); basic knowledge of html and online collaboration platforms is a plus.

Applications for the Public Education Internship are accepted on a rolling basis. Internships run for the duration of six months, part to full time. We are currently accepting applications for the Internship period of February – July 2016.
