Residential Advisor – Per Diem – Covenant House Washington

This position provides direct care service to Residential youth. The incumbent provides direct support and supervision to the youth within the facilities; assisting them in attaining their service plan goals. The incumbent must be able to work independently, to multi-task and to effectively solve problems as they arise.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Working collaboratively with other Residential Advisors, manage the day-to-day operation of the facilities by maintaining an environment which addresses youth needs in a manner that is comfortable, motivating, and secure for them
Help youth assess and achieve the goals and objectives set forth in their Individualized Service Plans
Provide supportive services to youth, in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Center
Participate in meetings that concern the status, progress and discharge of residential youth
Lead and/or participate in group activities and meetings with youth
Assist youth in preparing to start the day and completing assigned household tasks
Participate in required training and staff meetings
Complete progress notes and other required documentation for youth records
Assist youth in planning appropriate community-based and leisure activities
Counsel youth as necessary in a manner that is respectful, honest, non-judgmental and empathetic
Serve as an appropriate role model for youth

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: This position does not supervise any other position.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Regular contact with all CHW staff, external agencies and collaborative partners

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience: Preferably a minimum of three years working with at-risk youth

Knowledge & Skills:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to convey empathy and caring to emotionally vulnerable youth
Training on youth/adolescent issues and familiarity with positive youth development principles
Comfortable working with Microsoft Outlook & Word, Internet Explorer (or equivalent) and familiarity with database entry
Stellar attendance and punctuality is essential to ensure consistent staff coverage

Considerable concentration
Constant interruptions
Moderate noise level
Moderate sitting, standing, eye strain, walking, bending and lifting
Able to be mobile and move at a fast pace
Able to provide driving record to operate residential vehicle when necessary
