The Seminar Planning Specialist plays a lead role planning and designing accredited Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars that strengthen Washington lawyers’ professionalism and competence for practice. The Specialist works closely with staff and volunteer stakeholders to understand the evolving needs of attorneys in a wide variety of practice settings, and to help shape CLE programing that responds to these needs, aligns with the broader continuum of WSBA’s educational programming, and reflects WSBA’s mission focus areas and strategic goals. The primary focus of this Developer’s portfolio is WSBA’s ethics and skills seminars, with additional support provided for Sections-sponsored CLE seminars.

To successfully carry out the duties for this position, the successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in a number of areas, including:

· Seminar Design and Development, with an emphasis on event planning
· Annual Planning, with an emphasis on overall portfolio design and management
· Process Improvement, with an emphasis on innovation and efficiency

In the skill areas noted above, you will feel prepared to take on this role if you have experience:

Working with appropriate staff and stakeholders to assess learning needs and priorities; clarifying and validating learning outcomes and objectives in consultation with managers and relevant stakeholders; facilitating ongoing dialogue with key identified stakeholders; determining, promoting and facilitating opportunities for collaboration; identifying and engaging subject matter experts to shape curriculum and programs; recruiting, preparing and managing speakers (ensuring timely follow through at all stages of the process); coordinating seminar planning and calendaring with the associated teams, and ensuring the timely and accurate submission of information in organization-wide seminar and event calendars.

Further, this position ensures seminars are delivered on time, on target, and on budget, by: meeting deadlines, coordinating and communicating regularly with the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) team early, regularly and accurately; managing the event budget as approved by the Education Manager; advance planning and coordination with the webcast team; understanding and communicating registration goals; collaborating with the Communications Department to facilitate strategies that complement formal marketing and advertising; collaborating with the webcast production team by providing support and guidance on education content of online seminars; works with appropriate staff and stakeholders to assess learning needs and priorities and to plan a continuum of educational seminars (such as webcasts, and webinars); and to evaluate the success and impact of the seminars offered.
