To reduce/defeat malnutrition, especially through agricultural development for nutrition among women and children in impoverished areas. Since 2003 NEI has been developing a sustainable soy industry in Afghanistan in collaboration and partnership with many Afghan ministries and international food security organizations.
Position Description:
The Operations Manager (SOM) will play a leadership role in creating a dynamic and financially sound organization, with an effective staff and supportive volunteers and donors. SOM will assist the NEI President in managing day-to-day operational activities at its USA HQ and Kabul Office. NEI is currently developing a self-sustainable soybean value chain in Afghanistan including soy nutrition and home use campaign, soybean production, soybean processing and soy market development. This is a non-profit organization but runs with a corporate mindset to achieve goals timely as a start-up company.
Qualifications preferred:
Preferred candidate should hold a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree
Five + years work experience in operations management positions in a non-profit or corporate environment
Demonstrated experience with an operational budget of at least $5 million with practical knowledge of program management, budgeting, financial management, and P/L.
Strong understanding of non-profit, individual philanthropists, and international development and relations and international fundraising experience
Oversee HQ staff in administration, accounting, and program management positions.
A commitment to, and an ability to articulate, a progressive model of philanthropy leading to eradicating poverty and hunger among the underprivileged populations
Skills required:
Excellent written and verbal skills; many communications are with individuals whose first language is not English. Must have good public speaking skills.
Strong project management skills – organizing, planning, execution and M&E
Ability to work well with both internal and external stakeholders
Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Strong leadership skills and the ability to recruit and motivate staff and volunteers
Management experience with Accounting or Finance background preferred
Financial Management Responsibilities:
Lead the operational budgeting process with the Finance and Accounting department
Oversee implementation of strategic financial directions set by President and Board
Review and analyze all financial reports to manage the annual budget.
Monitor and evaluate financials of on-going NEI program activities, and identify methods to reduce cost, advise key executives
Upgrade and monitor appropriate financial policies, internal controls, accounting standards and procedures
Operations and Program Management Responsibilities:
Ensure planning, development and implementation of program activities to support the growth and development of NEI initiatives in Afghanistan.
Oversee program development, budgeting and implementation in Afghanistan
Monitor progress of ongoing programs in the field
Coordinate annual objectives, budget, program plans, and marketing plans
Ensure effective systems of monitoring and evaluation for all aspects of the organization.
Support NEI Afghanistan operations to be managed for meeting organizational goals
Administration Responsibilities:
Overall responsibility for staffing recommendations and structure.
Effectively manage staff according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations
Set staff accountabilities and support/motivate employees in the realization of program objectives
Work to ensure that the organization and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.
Network with international development agencies, media, key influencers and policy makers and major donors to promote NEI’s work
Travel, both domestic and international will be required
