IMPACT IN THE COMMUNITY
After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) is a California 501©(3) non-profit organization. ASEP’s mission is to provide the community with equal access to quality after school enrichment programming by combining core values of Arts Enrichment, Academic Support and Health and Wellness into a comprehensive and specialized educational experience.
We serve over 450 San Francisco youth in grades kindergarten through 5th grade during after school and summer time programming. Through a mixed funding model, 250 at-risk or underserved students attend our program completely free.
ASEP LANGUAGE PROGRAM
ASEP Language Program is a student-centered, 90-10 language and multicultural convergence model that serves K-5 Spanish and Mandarin learners. ASEP Language Program commingle a blend of an academic rigorousness and play-based learning approach. ASEP Language Program’s curriculum is aligned with California’s K-12 Public School’s World Language Content Standards and with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages National Standards (ACTFL).
ASEP Language Program provides three groups of Spanish and two groups of Mandarin at McKinley Elementary School.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Co-lead a small mixed-age class with a student-teacher ratio of no more than 15:1.
Motivate each student to develop competencies, knowledge and skills in aurally comprehending, speaking, reading and writing Spanish as a foreign language in accordance with each student’s ability.
Guide each student to interpret the cultures of the countries where the foreign language is spoken and to discover and develop special talents of students in foreign language communication.
Implement ASEP Spanish Language Program curriculum with pre-design instructional plans.
Innovate, create or adapt the curriculum in real-time of class activities
Ensure the safety of students and follow ASEP Restorative Justice school policies and ASEP’s class management program
Maintain a successful relationship with key partners (SFUSD, DCYF, RPD, parents, community etc.)
Must attend occasional meetings and events outside of regular work schedule
QUALIFICATIONS
Fluent in English and Spanish (spoken and written)
Background in education with a B.A or B.S or at least 48 education units
1+ year teaching in a K-5 Spanish immersion setting and/or 1+ year of teaching Spanish as a second language
1+ year prior experience on working in a childcare setting under the direction of a child care center director and/or in after school programming
Six post-secondary units in language, recreation, physical education, elementary school education, art, music, or dance relevant to elementary school children or be concurrently enrolled in classes
Passion for working with and engaging children in student driven learning experiences
Commitment to continuous improvement and is customer driven
Entrepreneurial mindset and feels comfortable working in a fast past and changing environment
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS This is a part-time hourly role that is set up as contractor status.
Scheduled at the school site starting at 1pm; Mondays through Thursdays 2015-2016
Pay rate: $16 -19 per hour depending upon experience
Performance Compensation Program with quarterly bonus of $150 per teacher.
