Summer Program Coordinator – Shrewsbury Youth & Family Services – Shrewsbury, MA

Position Summary:

Shrewsbury Youth & Family Services Inc. (SYFS), is seeking a Summer Program Coordinator from June 8, 2015 through August 14, 2015. The agency provides positive youth development programs for young people ages 11-16 aimed at promoting self-confidence and self-esteem. The organization offers two popular summer programs including “You Go Girl” for middle school girls and a leadership institute for high school students. Both programs are facilitated 6-hours a day consecutively, Monday through Friday. The Summer Program Coordinator works with the agency leadership to plan, develop, implement and oversee the summer programs. This position will provide supervision and oversight to the support staff including group leaders and volunteers.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrating and setting the tone for enthusiasm and professionalism and positive role modeling at all times.

Ensuring all activities are fully planned, prepared and organized.

Recruiting guest speakers and role models.

Motivating and inspiring participates in activities.

Working with the team in developing and implementing the program curriculum and daily plans that are fun and interactive activities that include learning projects, leadership, self-esteem, life skills, enrichment, and games that are consistent with the goals and objectives of the program.

Meeting with program staff to discuss group activities, debriefing, providing information and feedback where necessary.

Seeking out and responding to participant, parent and staff feedback surrounding activities and solving concerns swiftly and fairly.

Messaging clear expectations for behavior and providing instruction and support.

Ensuring participant safety and wellbeing at all times. Ensuring consistent ratio and supervision.

Assisting with program marketing and community outreach.

Communicating frequently with the Senior Clinical Coordinator and the Executive Director. Report concerns promptly.

Pitching in to help execute the program as necessary, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive nature in helping participants, group leaders, and volunteers.

All other duties as needed.

Education/ Experience
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, counseling, education, or relevant human / social services or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of program coordination, positive youth development, organization, group facilitation, and promotion/outreach. Also requires a minimum of one year of relevant experience, excellent communication skills, organization skills, writing skills, and computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
