Position: The Steppingstone Academy Director
Reports to: Director of Programs
General Description:
The Steppingstone Academy (TSA) Director is responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating academic and enrichment programs that support Scholars’ access to the college pipeline from admissions to college matriculation. This individual will oversee the day-to-day programming operations for TSA (5th- 12th grade). This is an excellent opportunity for an organized and driven educator who is passionate about educational equity and who wants deep involvement implementing a strategic programming vision. The TSA Director will report to the Director of Programs and oversee the TSA Staff. Some weekend and evening work is mandatory.
Position Goals:
Work with Director of Programs to develop and lead the execution of a strategic vision for program enhancement and expansion.
Provide the overall leadership to assure that the Scholars Program fulfills its mission.
Evaluate and update all aspects of program curriculum yearly
Evaluate and improve different components of the program, i.e. admissions, preparation & placement and support services and continually improve the program
Develops and coordinates programming/initiatives to support Scholars’ sustained engagement in a rigorous college prep curriculum from middle grades through college
Analyzes metrics of student success and develops reports about academic success and program effectiveness for Scholars in middle school through College and Career Entry
Position Responsibilities:
Supervise and support TSA program staff
Support Program staff to work with parents throughout the admissions, placement process; placement fair, selections of schools, application workshops, financial aid workshops, school visits and interviews.
Advise 7th and 8th graders
Manage day-to-day aspects of the Scholars Program, including the budget.
Support program staff to coordinate placement activities by working closely with families and placement schools to ensure best possible match of schools and students.
Serve as liaison for Steppingstone between independent and public education communities
Coordinate TSA staff to recruit, hire and train Scholars program summer and academic year faculty
Oversee the operations of the summer program (Academy Six, StepItUp!, Blended Learning Initiative.
Oversees the TSA Parent Board and its committees
Supports Scholars’ college selection and persistence
Inform Families and Scholars about College and Career options that support college completion and social mobility
Other duties as assigned
Professional Development
Maintains active affiliations with professional organizations, such as POCDVIS, NPEA, and attends relevant conferences.
At least once, yearly submit a conference proposal for presentation.
Creates and executes professional development opportunities for Steppingstone Staff to enhance their understanding of the overall core program
Publications and Events
Assists in the planning, implementation, and publication of program specific reports
Assists in the planning and execution of activities related to
Supports creation of resources to inform students in all grade levels about summer programs, college visits, scheduling, etc.
Analyzes metrics of student success and develops reports about academic success and overall program effectiveness
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred (e.g. MSW, M.Ed., etc)
Experience in urban education nonprofits and/or school-settings; independent school experience helpful
Classroom/Enrichment teaching experience would be helpful
Passionate about educational access for underserved communities
Experience working directly with youth through mentorship, teaching or general youth program implementation and project management
Experience and knowledge about school options, academic and enrichment resources in Philadelphia
Curriculum design background
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and evident ability to handle multiple projects
Skilled in keeping data, analyzing data, and creating reports or evaluations
Ability to think strategically, identify potential problems, innovate, and provide proactive solutions
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster collaborative relationships with families, students, school partners, external partners and Board members
Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Constant Contact, Filemaker Pro and social media tools
Must have own car and valid driver’s license
SALARY REQUIREMENTS
Salary will be in the $60,000-$65,000 range and based on prior experience. Medical and dental benefits provided.
