This Way Ahead Youth Development Specialist – Enterprise for High School Students – San Francisco, CA

Position Objective: To mentor and support youth through a training and internship program. To provide youth with a positive professional role model and inspire them to pursue success in their education and career.

Outreach and Youth Recruitment (September – December)

Assist with program outreach and youth recruitment including school and CBO site visits.
Participate in youth participant selection process: conduct information sessions, review applications, interview applicants and recommend participants for final selection.

Job Readiness Phase (January – April)

Responsible for two groups of approximately 25 youth participants during Job Readiness Training including workshop facilitation, individual check-ins, practice interviews, employment portfolio review and individual support as needed.
Train, support and provide youth development and workshop facilitation guidance and feedback to Gap Inc. volunteers who facilitate supplemental workshops for the participants.
Assist in planning and execution of large program events such as graduation ceremonies.

Internship Phase (June – September)

Responsible for conducting weekly check-ins and monthly store visits with interns working in Gap/Old Navy/ Banana Republic stores to support interns’ personal growth and ability to be successful in a professional environment. Responsible for tracking intern progress throughout internship.
Develop partnerships with hosting store managers and conduct monthly meetings to discuss intern progress and job performance.
Facilitate monthly workshops for youth to support their professional development and success during their internship.
Support students who did not get accepted into a summer employment program in navigating resources and employment opportunities.

Ongoing Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with Gap Foundation and Gap/Old Navy/ Banana Republic Store Managers to develop successful program structure and support for the youth.

Participate in program evaluation process and provide recommendations for program improvement.
Participate in agency wide meetings and events, special projects and other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum BA required, preferably in a field related to education, social work and/or youth development/youth employment.
At least 2 years experience working with youth in a group and individual basis; knowledge of youth development principles.
At least 2 years experience working with diverse populations.

At least 2 years teaching or workshop facilitation experience.
Experience in workshop and curriculum development with an emphasis on youth development and employment skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to be creative, detailed oriented and work in a team.
Experience collaborating and building partnerships with employers and corporate funders preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator and Salesforce a plus.
Bilingual skills are a plus (particularly Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese).
