ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:
INCLUDEnyc (formerly Resources for Children with Special Needs) empowers NYC families and youth with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to make informed decisions, effectively access and navigate systems and services, and advocate for themselves and other young people with disabilities and their families. INCLUDEnyc supports educators, youth workers, and other professionals to partner with families, and to support and promote a family voice in the policy process. JOB SUMMARY:
The Youth and Family Educator delivers workshops and one-to-one help to youth with disabilities and their families. S/he is responsible for the program coordination and delivery of INCLUDEnyc’s direct service youth programs, including High School Match (middle school students), High School Launch (high school students), and Project Possibility (transition-aged youth). S/he also delivers workshops and one-to-one help to families of children, youth and young adults with disabilities with an emphasis on empowering youth and families with knowledge and tools to advocate effectively and address challenging behaviors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Training and Resources
Develop and deliver curriculum for youth, students, parents and educators to improve self-advocacy skills, promote informed choices, and improve educational, employment, and independent living outcomes
Deliver engaging and interactive workshops to both small and large groups of middle school youth within a school setting.
Facilitate engaging and interactive workshops that impart information in a clear and accessible manner to diverse families of children, youth and young adults with disabilities.
Provide 1:1 help to youth and families with an emphasis on empowering them with the skills and knowledge to navigate systems and make informed decisions.
Collaborate with program staff and outreach team to create training materials that meet the needs of INCLUDEnyc’s constituents.
Provide information and resources to help youth and families gain the confidence and skills to partner with educators and other service providers.
Attend meetings and events with young adults to assist them with navigating adult systems and learning self advocacy skills
Program Coordinations
Manage logistical coordination of curriculum development and workshop delivery, including scheduling workshops and preparing materials.
Lead the accurate and timely input of program data.
Provide day-to-day supervision to student interns supporting workshop delivery.
Required Qualifications
B.A. in education, social work, or related field.
Experience working with youth with disabilities and their families. Experience working with middle school, high school and/or transition-aged youth a plus.
Written and verbal fluency in Spanish and/or Mandarin a plus.
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver workshops that are culturally competent, highly engaging, interactive, and impart complex information in a clear and accessible manner.
Willingness and ability to travel throughout the five boroughs on public transportation.
Highly organized; strong project management and multitasking skills.
Flexibility in the face of ambiguity or change; comfort with shifting deadlines and priorities.
Collaborative spirit. Ability to work within a team.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to INCLUDEnyc’s mission of building positive educational outcomes for young New Yorkers with disabilities, parent leadership, and self-advocacy skills in youth
