ORGANIZATION: Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH)
Figure Skating in Harlem is a not-for-profit community-based organization providing educational, cultural and athletic opportunities for girls in Harlem through the unique discipline and art of figure skating. FSH provides an innovative after-school ice skating and educational program designed to build teamwork, leadership, confidence and academic achievement. FSH students pledge to maintain at least a B average in school throughout the season. Tutors provide academic support and remediation to help students meet this standard.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Tutor
As part of the ICE: I Can Excel academic team, the tutor will work under the supervision of the Director of Education. Tutors will meet with students weekly to help them reach and maintain a B average and to support them in all of their academic goals. Tutors will review academic assessments and follow an individual academic plan for each student in their group (1:4 ratio). Tutors will supervise homework to reinforce concepts learned in school (1:10 ratio). Tutors will also be responsible for tracking student progress by keeping detailed records, communicating with parents, and preparing written progress reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum two years tutoring and educational experience
Currently enrolled in college, graduates preferred
Ability to tutor elementary, middle school and/or high school students
Ability to commit to working throughout the season (Oct – April)
High proficiency in writing and mathematics
Attention to detail, superb organization skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
DOE fingerprint preferred
DAYS: Monday –Friday 3:30-6:30PM
HOURLY RATE: Depends on Experience
