Campaign Researcher – Unite Here Local 2 – San Francisco, CA

UNITE HERE Local 2 is seeking campaign researchers to assist with organizing and collective bargaining initiatives. The researcher will work with substantial independence in conducting research, strategic and corporate analysis, political and community organizing, and supporting other aspects of Local 2’s campaigns.

Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Assist workers and staff in all aspects of organizing and contract campaigns.
Research and analyze companies, markets, and industries using a wide variety of sources (e.g. publications, database, internet sources as well as informational interviews with union, industry and financial experts).
Identify and analyze new hotel and food service developments, and represent the union during the planning process.
Develop corporate and policy analyses and adapt them for various audiences (e.g. staff, workers, stockholders, politicians, consumers, and others).
Build relationships and communicate with elected officials, community organizations, and others.
Coordinate all elements of a project or particular campaign.

Job Requirements/Qualifications (include but are not limited to):

Minimum of 2 years research/organizing around labor issues, or 5 years research/organizing in another field.
BA or equivalent.
Ability to organize major research projects, and coordinate work with others.
Ability to work effectively with organizers and regional leaders required.
Ability to work under pressure, including long hours and weekends as needed.
Excellent research, writing and speaking skills required, including an ability to work independently.
Strong analytical skills (such as business modeling & policy analysis).
Familiarity with published and internet sources, as well as skill in interviewing industry experts required.
Some expertise in UNITE HERE industries or industrial/financial issues preferred.
Travel as needed. Must own a vehicle, and be prepared to drive frequently throughout Northern California.
Fluency in second languages is desirable (esp. Spanish, Cantonese), particularly reading/writing skills.
