Job Summary
Esalen Institute, the pioneering alternative education center dedicated to personal and social transformation, is currently seeking a full-time Maintenance Manager to join our team.
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the maintenance department, and reports to the Director of Operations. The Maintenance Manager is also contributing member of the following teams:
Safety & Security / Disaster preparedness
Sustainability committee
Furniture Fixtures and Equipment – renovation, maintenance and purchasing team
Others as needed
Responsibilities
Supervise, develop and maintain the ongoing maintenance operation including building repair and maintenance, water systems, heating, electrical, plumbing, preventive maintenance, guest and staff rooms, HVAC, pools, kitchen equipment, emergency generators etc. Esalen properties currently include the main campus, Cormorant Cove, & the South Coast.
A track record of proficiency in one or more trade skills, and/ or direct supervision of tradesmen.
Supervise the implementation and on-going operation of all property and equipment preventative maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) systems.
Ensure compliance with all life safety regulations and all local, state and national regulatory codes.
Provide leadership, oversight, accountability and motivation for staff members.
Create an effective learning and feedback environment including clear expectations; on going performance feedback, team and individual goal setting and tracking, accountability and individual development plans.
Recommend, initiate and follow proper procedures for personnel actions, such as interviewing, hiring, time keeping, leaves of absence, promotions, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
Ensure projectsare completed according to specifications, on time and on budget in accordance with all state and federal regulations by proper planning and execution including accurately estimating worker-hour requirements and materials for completion.
Budget Management: Develop, justify and document annual and project budgets and perform work within departmental and project expense plans. Follow project expense procedure guidelines.
Communication: Creates a free flowing environment for effective exchange of information, up and down and across the organization. Holds responsibility as the primary liaison to interpret organization policies, disseminate all relevant information and answer staff member questions.
Monitor and direct of all maintenance personnel and vendors to ensure staff adheres to company policies and procedures.
Maintains accurate records and filing system to support operational and project budgets, PM & CM Programs, Safety Systems and Inspections, etc.
Able to plan, set priorities, organize, delegate and follow-through to completion on all areas of responsibility in a timely manner.
Other duties as assigned.
