Bilingual Shelter Advocate – YWCA Silicon Valley – San Jose, CA

A well established non-profit organization is seeking a compassionate, organized and reliable individual with a high level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence to join our passionate and dynamic team dedicated to the people they serve. This individual should possess demonstrated ability working with culturally and economically diverse individuals and families.

Workhoursareprimarilyweekend evenings. Schedule TBD. Delivery of service may include overtime to accomplish task at hand.You will be working in a confidential, restricted working environment, sometimes alone.Workincludesliftingupto30pounds. This is a part-time position.

Be a key member of staff as the Shelter Advocate in our Domestic Violence Department, Support Network Program. In addition, this individual should be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment and be able to respond appropriately to unexpected situations.

Responsibilities include:

Conveys empathy, respect, and compassion when delivering services.

Effectively communicate survivor needs to the team and any non-compliance to shelter guidelines.

Ensure safety by responding effectively to safety threats, conflicts and crisis situations.

Provide peer counseling, crisis and case management, community referrals and domestic violence education to individuals and families residing in the YWCA Silicon Valley’s confidential emergency domestic violence shelter and housing programs.

Supports all activities related to the coordination of daily operations, including room readiness, distribution of food and supplies, basic site maintenance, conflict resolution, crisis management, client accompaniment and direct advocacy.

We require:

BS Social Services

Bilingual

Computer literate

Previous training or exposure to domestic violence, trauma and client-centered services.

Experience with counseling, case-management and residence management.
