California Pro Bono Training Institute Coordinator

OneJustice is a statewide nonprofit that expands civil legal aid for low-income Californians by building infrastructure and partnerships in the legal community throughour Pro Bono Justice and Healthy Nonprofits programs. OneJustice supports a statewide network of nonprofit legal organizations, law schools, law firms, andbusinesses in providing free legal assistance to those in need. Our mission is to resolve legal problems by removing barriers to justice.
The Pro Bono Justice program promotes, builds, and manages innovative nonprofit and private partnerships in the legal community so that low-incomecommunities throughout California have access to free legal assistance. The California Pro Bono Training Institute is a new and innovative project founded by the pro bono directors from OneJustice, Legal Aid Foundation ofLos Angeles (LAFLA), and Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLS-LA) aimed at developing a more efficient system for the legal aid networkto develop meaningful pro bono trainings. Through collaboration with pro bono stakeholders in California, the Institute will develop a statewide online forumof substantive trainings that will provide Legal Services Organizations (LSOs) and pro bono attorneys with easily accessible, highly engaging, and on-demandcontinuing education courses relevant to pro bono work for low-income clients. The goal of the Training Institute is to create a centralized and moreefficient statewide pro bono delivery system and to expand overall pro bono in the state by increasing access to trainings, reducing the creation of duplicativetrainings, and facilitating easier recruitment and support of private sector attorneys by providing an online portal to connect LSOs and private attorneys. TheInstitute is funded by a Pro Bono Innovation Fund Grant by the Legal Services Corporation (LSC).
Position Description:
The Training Institute Coordinator, in partnership with staff at LAFLA and NLS-LA, will be responsible for all project management, administrative, and technological support for the Training Institute. The Coordinator will staff and serve as a key member of the Training Institute Advisory Group, consisting of staff at LAFLA, NLS-LA, and OneJustice. Coordinator will work out ofOneJustice’s Los Angeles office and will report to OneJustice’s Senior Staff Attorney.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management
· Lead responsibility for developing and maintaining the Training Institute’s project management plan, including ensuring that all project goals are met on time and within budget
· Administrative support to and participation in the Training Institute Advisory Group (committee), including:
· Schedule and set agendas for regular Advisory Group meetings and calls
· Take and provide notes after the meetings and calls
· Organize and direct the attorneys involved in creation of trainings to ensure they work together, meet deadlines, and finalize trainings for which they are responsible
Administrative and Technology Support on Training Development & Best Practices
· Work with Advisory Group to select highest priority substantive areas of law for training modules
· Provide logistical and administrative support to meetings convened by the Institute of key stakeholders and community members to brainstorm substantivetopics and training modules (scheduling, venue logistics, note-taking, etc.)
· Learn about key best practices in training design and adult learning
· Work with Advisory Group to develop set of core protocol for Training Institute training modules to use with trainers (based on best practices and adultlearning concepts)
· Work with Advisory Group and expert trainers to design, plan for, and record (video, webinar, or other) the actual training modules
· Execute final editing and production steps for the training modules (including video editing)
· Support expert trainers in the development of resources to accompany the training modules
· Upload and post to the Institute website, including accompanying resource materials and evaluations
· Ensure that all trainings included in the Institute’s website comply with the articulated core protocol (best practices)
Create & Maintain the Pro Bono Training Institute Website
· Develop and create the Pro Bono Training Institute online presence through a WordPress website
· Post all trainings to the website and maintain all related materials, tools, resources, etc.
· Respond to inquiries about the website from external stakeholders and users
· Provide technical assistance to users trying to access the trainings and/or resources
· Maintain all required Continuing Legal Education (CLE) records, including agendas, attendance, and evaluations
Manage Grants, Budget, and Evaluation
· Track deliverables and deadlines relating to the Legal Services Corporation Pro Bono Innovation Fund Grant (and other grants if added)
· Track the Pro Bono Training Institute budget and costs
· Develop tracking device to ensure OneJustice and its partners has up-to-date information on the inputs, outputs, and outcomes of the Training Institute
· Draft reports and otherwise synthesize data on the work of the Training Institute for internal and external stakeholders (including partners and funders)
You Need:
· B.A./B.S.
· At least 3 to 5 years of professional experience of increasing responsibility
· Demonstrated project management experience, including at least 3 years managing complex projects and guiding participants in timely completion ofactivities and deliverables
· Experience in video editing and production preferred
· Experience in website creation and/or management preferred
· Previous experience working with low-income and/or underserved communities in a nonprofit setting preferred
