Healthy Bellingham is currently seeking an experienced organizer for a 3 – 6 month position coordinating a coalition in support of a Paid Sick and Safe Leave ordinance for the City of Bellingham. Strong Bellingham community connections and background in organizing, campaign strategy, policy development, and/or communications are especially desirable.
Key duties will include:
Reaching out to and maintaining contact with organizations and individuals in Bellingham to build support for paid sick days, especially those representing ethnic communities, low- and moderate-income workers, and women.
Recruiting small business owners as campaign allies
Identifying and training spokespeople and emerging leaders
Staffing coalition meetings
Participating in strategic decision-making
Communicating with policymakers
Working with communications staff to prepare materials and messaging; serving as spokesperson for campaign as necessary
Minimum qualifications:
B.A. degree
3 years of professional experience. Background in organizing, campaign strategy, policy development, and/or communications is especially desirable.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to work with a broad range of people
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to drive and access to a vehicle
Ability to work flexible hours
