JOB DESCRIPTION
Fuse is looking for a multi-talented individual to participate and complete a 10-month communications fellowship supporting a small group of partner organizations working on climate justice. The fellow will gain a deep knowledge of advocacy communications and practical skills from communications experts from across Washington state, while working hands-on with Puget Sound Sage and Latino Community Fund on several exciting climate justice efforts.
The fellowship is a paid, part-time position with a contract through November 2016. The position is located in Seattle, WA and will work closely with and report to the Communications Hub Coordinator at Fuse. This position will also work closely with two partner organizations, Puget Sound Sage and Latino Community Fund.

Fuse (www.fusewashington.org) is Washington State’s largest progressive organization. We bring people together online and on the ground to create change on the issues that matter most. We focus on four basic strategies: 1) mobilizing more people in our democracy, 2) integrating stronger communications in progressive campaigns, 3) leveraging collaboration between progressive groups, and 4) increasing leadership and accountability with elected officials.
The Communications Hub is a statewide program housed at Fuse. We are a communications “toolshed” for the progressive movement – providing partners and organizations strategic messaging support, storytelling training and coaching, and direct staffing capacity to strengthen advocacy campaigns.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in a 10-month communications training program led by multiple trainers and teachers from across Washington
Generate content and communications for Puget Sound Sage and Latino Community Fund
Draft earned and new media content
Develop creative communications tactics to reach and engage the public
Optimize blog posts and other content for social media posts
Facebook and Twitter
Track and post climate justice blog posts from partner organizations
Identify and collect personal stories from advocates and leaders across Washington state
Support volunteers as they develop their story for climate justice advocacy
Work with coalition partners to identify strategic stories to collect
Attend weekly climate justice communications meetings in Seattle
Other responsibilities as determined by the Communications Hub Coordinator and staff at Puget Sound Sage and Latino Community Fund
QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent writing skills and a knack for storytelling.
A mind for political strategy.
Proven commitment to social and racial justice.
Strong ability to navigate multiple organizations and coalition structures in a fast-paced environment.
Creative, innovative, and have a sense of humor.
Collaborative and thrives working in a team setting.
Ability to manage multiple projects under tight timelines.
Ability to work independently and think outside the box.
Strong public presence. Engaging and confident interpersonal style.
Bi-lingual Spanish and English a plus.
