Communications Associate – Equal Rights Advocates – San Francisco, CA

ERA was founded in 1974 as a public interest law firm dedicated to ending discrimination against women and girls. ERA’s mission is to protect and secure equal rights and economic opportunities for women and girls through litigation, policy advocacy, and direct services.

Position: Communications Associate

Reports to: Communications Manager

Classification: 60% Part-time to permanent full time possibility

Compensation: ERA offers salaries that are competitive in the San Francisco Bay Area public interest/non-profit legal community, and are based on degrees and years of experience.

Essential Duties

Partner with Communications Manager to increase ERA online presence and supporter engagement.
Manage Twitter, multiple LinkedIn accounts, Facebook, and Instagram content to ensure each account is being updated regularly and relevantly. Respond to engagement and seek out new accounts to follow.
Manage ERA’s WordPress website to ensure content is regularly updated and accurate. Perform website audits.
Assist in content production for the above (research, write, edit, basic graphic design).
Own and manage ERA’s media database (journalists) and press portfolio (clippings).
Liaise with contractors to gather proposals and ensure timely production of ERA materials. E.g., web developer, graphic designers, copy editors, printers.
Attend and assist in the development and implementation of ERA programmatic events and activities.
Ensure timely follow up is completed post events and content is featured on various platforms.
Generate regular reports on web traffic and social activity and provide strategic communications strategy based on metrics and data.
Research for social media campaigns and other communications projects.
Write short blog posts.
Ensure consistent branding and style across all printed materials and web content.
Assist with research and writing for opinion editorials, press releases, and speeches.
Coordinate logistics for interviews and events.
Participate in Communications Committee meetings and assist Communications Manager with agenda setting and committee management.
Perform other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (preferably in communications, media, English or relevant field)
2-3 years communications experience within a nonprofit setting strongly preferred
Well versed and passionate about women’s rights issues
Excellent writing and editing skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows
Required technical experience with video editing program, Salsa Labs, Word Press, In-design, Photoshop
Required technical experience in webinar development
Required experience managing social media platforms and implement strategic online campaigns
CRM experience
