Community Organizer – Intern Position
To empower individuals to make independent, informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive lives, we provide information and health care, and promote public policies that make those services available to all. Planning is power.
PPNYC is seeking a Community Organizing Internto work within the Public Affairs Department to support our advocacy initiatives and campaigns. The Community Organizing intern will work with the Director of Community Organizing and Community Organizer to manage activist base, provide support for events, and build our youth base.
Duties:
Community Organizing interns help raise awareness about PPNYC’s education programs and advocacy initiatives, have conversations about reproductive health, rights, and justice, and offer the tools for New Yorkers to empower themselves and elevate their own voices.
Youth Organizing
Recruit Planned Parenthood Generation Action leaders on college campuses for biannual College Activist Trainings
Collaborate with staff on nationwide and local campaigns for NYC students
Support NYC students in their campus organizing work by providing skills based trainings, connections to community partners, and overall leadership development opportunities
Activist Council
Provide event support to staff and activists
Recruit for and attend NYC borough PRIDE marches and additional community events
Attend and provide support during evening Activist Council meetings
Health Center Advocacy
Complete one Health Center Advocacy shift per week in health center
Qualifications:
Must have commitment to and strong interest in reproductive health, rights, and justice
Must demonstrate campus/community leadership experience
Must be able to work with and relate to people of multiple backgrounds
Must be at least 18 years of age
Requirements:
Minimum time-commitment of 10 hours per week
