Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development will work with the Development Committee of the Board of Directors to design and implement strategies to successfully increase charitable support from foundations, individuals and corporations.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
FUNDRAISING
Develop plan and strategies for renewing and increasing revenue from local and national foundations, individual donors, corporate funders and family foundations. Manage the grants/foundation calendar and put together grant materials for proposals, interim reports and final reports as required by the funder.
Research funding prospects and collaborate with grant writing consultant in writing and editing grant proposals. Submit (local, national and government) proposals on a regular basis and identify new prospects, cultivate private major donors, solicit sponsors and steward a $2M budget.
Guide comprehensive fundraising strategies that will be developed through upcoming strategic plan recommendations to meet the needs of the organization including core operating expenses, current programs, and special projects.
Keep regular communication with donors.
EVENT PLANNING
Lead implementation of special events, including Give Liberty A Hand (GLAH), MIRA’s annual fundraiser and all other events.
Design and carry out annual events and large galas. Effectively manage interns, staff, vendors, community leaders for efficient donor relations
Identify and cultivate strategic corporate and public relations and visibility opportunities (i.e., conferences, funders briefings and educational workshops).
Supervise development associates, consultants, volunteers and vendors.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
In collaboration with the Executive Director, provide leadership to staff and Board Development Committee by taking responsibility for opening new doors to prospective donors, and for bringing in new and increased funding from current donors.
Organize and staff the Board of Directors’ Development Committee
Recruitment of development staff, interns and other fundraising personnel.
ADMINISTRATVE DUTIES
Ability to effectively lead meetings and lead groups to measureable results. Develop donor stewardship materials.
Interact and coordinate with finance staff and understand budgets.
Maintain accurate records of donor and membership information.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
Excellent oral, writing skills and strict attention to detail. Able to work in a fast pace and deadline driven environment.
Three-to-five years experience in development, fundraising, and event planning in an organization raising $2M annually.
Ability to effectively lead meetings and lead groups to measureable results. Develop donor stewardship materials and follow up with donors.
Proven track record of relationship building, preferably in an advocacy or human services setting. Demonstrated commitment to human rights, social justice and immigrant integration principles.
Knowledge of New England philanthropic and corporate community a plus.
Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative working style, enthusiasm, creativity, a positive sense of humor and a can do attitude in order to motivate committees and volunteers to achieve budget revenue goals.
Excellent organizational and presentation skills; experience with program and organizational development.
Discretion with confidential information and good judgment a must. Sense of humor preferred.
Positive attitude and enthusiasm in a fast pace environment, while representing the organization both internally with staff and externally with stakeholders.
Able to leverage the time of the Executive Director, Board of Directors, other program directors on staff and consultants to achieve fundraising goals strategically.
Familiarity with customer data management databases (we utilize a Salsa Labs database). Proficient in MS Office Suite (able to create mail merge documents and advanced spreadsheet tables)
Preference for graphic design and website management knowledge
