TRANSGENDER LEGAL DEFENSE & EDUCATION FUND SEEKING DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT:

Growing non-profit transgender rights organization seeks full-time development director

Successful candidate will be assertive and energetic, with experience cultivating individual and corporate donors, organizing events, generating direct mailings, and researching new sources of funding.

The successful candidate will be skilled at developing and maintaining relationships, leveraging contacts, and producing agency publications. The Director of Development will collaborate closely with the Executive Director, and will also work with the agency’s grant writing consultant.

Qualifications:

Diverse fundraising experience, including major gifts, institutional giving, and events preferred. Development and management of major gift programs desired. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required. A background in or familiarity with issues that are important to transgender people will greatly strengthen an application.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Create and plan agency-wide development strategies;

2. Provide leadership for fundraising activities;

3. Establish dollar and performance goals, objectives, action plans, and benchmarks for the organization’s overall development program; oversee and guide the planning and execution of approved development priorities;

4. Work with the Executive Director to set funding priorities and participate in budget planning;

5. Participate in shaping and refining the ways in which TLDEF presents itself to internal and external constituencies;

6. Be responsible for the development and growth of a major gifts program, including identifying, cultivating, and soliciting prospects for major gifts;

7. Identify, solicit, and cultivate prospective corporate, foundation and individual donors and/or other high-profile relationships in conjunction with the Executive Director and a grant writing consultant;

8. Plan fundraising events, including identifying opportunities for corporate sponsorships for events;

9. Prepare all development-related communications including but not limited to: email/direct mail appeals, the annual report, brochures, donor correspondence, and the development portion of the website.
