ACCE is a start up organization founded by the Historic Church of the Advocate (churchoftheadvocate.org) that seeks to unite community residents, volunteers, churches, service providers and educational institutions in a cooperative effort of mutual support and learning to improve the life prospects and well-being of North Philadelphia residents.

Summary of primary job functions

The Executive Director is responsible for developing our current afterschool program and creates additional programs that further our purpose including establishing goals and objectives in alignment with the mission of ACCE. S/he will work closely with the board of directors developing policies and procedures for the overall success of the operation. The Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for this program reporting to the board of directors.

Duties and responsibilities

General

Develop and oversee ACCE program(s)
Acts as the spokesperson for ACCE
Executes board-approved policies
Directs and oversees short and long term strategic plans
Attends Board Meetings
Creates job descriptions and occasionally review for aptness
Hires and maintains a competent and effective managerial and operational staff
Provides leadership to organization personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication
Conducts staff meetings to disseminate pertinent information
Ensures that appropriate salary and wage structures are maintained
Delegates authority and responsibility to managerial staff
Coordinates and directs employees
Creates and oversees procedure manuals for the program, outlining specific duties and area responsibilities.
Conducts performance appraisals as required
Formulates and implements corrective action as needed

Administration

1.) Ensures administrative staff remains current to organization business and Board directives/approvals that affect their functions and areas of responsibility

2.) Works with the Board of Directors on governance policy issues by providing support and by initiating approved recommendations or actions

3.) Ensures compliance to minimum standards in accordance with all government legislation, regulations and guidelines pertinent to the organization’s role as an employer and non-profit agency

4.) Recommends to the Board changes to policies and procedures that would improve the organization

5.) Maintains an effective and cost efficient office environment

6.) Develops, maintains, and up-dates job descriptions pertinent to the organization

7.) Determines staff training and/or equipment needs of clerical and administrative employees, taking into account annual budget allocations

8.) Submits all information, reports and records as requested or required by law to appropriate government officials or the board of directors

9.) Develops and implements operational plans, policies, and goals that further strategic objectives

Financial & Fundraising

1.) Develops board approved fundraising strategies for the viability of the organization

2.) Maintains full awareness of the complete financial, statistical, and accounting records of the organization

3.) Ensures that operating results established in the annual budget are achieved and the control of operating expenses within budget

4.) Ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial accounting and reporting

5.) Signs all checks and makes bank deposits timely

6.) Ensures the preparation of the annual budget for board approval

7.) Keeps ACCE in compliance with all State and Federal regulations including filing 990s and maintain annual tax exempt status.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate must be committed to ACCE’s mission and success.
Have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management skills.
Master’s degree in Business Management, Social Work, Education, or similar fields.
5-10 years experience developing and managing program(s).
Past success working with Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board members relationships.
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to hire, manage, coach and develop teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
Action and detailed oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business and program planning.
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
Strong marketing, public relations and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of donors, stakeholders and cultures.
