Move to Amend Job Announcement: Grassroots Volunteer Coordinator

The Move to Amend Coalition is a grassroots campaign to amend the U.S. Constitution to state that artificial entities such as corporations, unions, and non-profits do not have inherent rights under the Constitution, and that money is not free speech so campaign spending can be regulated.

Move to Amend focuses on movement building and community organizing, emphasizing leadership from communities most impacted by corporate power such as people of color, low-income people, women and youth. Move to Amend is structured to empower grassroots community leaders through affiliate groups across the United States that organize in their local communities for the amendment campaign.
Position

The Grassroots Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Move to Amend affiliate volunteers working at the local and state levels to advance the democracy movement to end corporate rule. Also helps respond to general inquiries at the National Office, and assists with coordinating Move to Amend’s Internship Program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Train and support staff, volunteers, and interns responsible for affiliate support functions.
Respond to Move to Amend affiliate inquiries by email and telephone.
Link Move to Amend affiliate volunteers with capacity-building resources, including workshops and trainings by Move to Amend’s National Leadership Team and Move to Amend’s Grassroots Movement Committee, as well as outside resources.
Develop and distribute educational materials and advice to Move to Amend affiliate volunteers/groups to deepen their organizing capacity and political understanding and analysis of movements, social change theory, and anti-oppression.
Maintain awareness of best practices in digital and community organizing, and provide related support to Move to Amend affiliates.
Plan activities and events for affiliate volunteers, including topical conference calls, webinars, meetings, conferences, house parties, workshops, etc.
With other staff, administer Move to Amend’s database, including affiliate volunteers and groups.
Maintain the Move to Amend affiliate listserv and research new and effective ways to create interactive resource sharing amongst members.
Review incoming communications. Respond to public inquiries or direct them to the appropriate party.
Communicate with new prospective volunteers by phone or email to engage them with Move to Amend’s affiliates and other work.
Serve as staff coordinator for the Grassroots Movement Committee.
With Program Coordinator, supervise on-site intern’s living situation.

Additional Responsibilities

Produce regular reports on progress made toward stated objectives and next steps as part of broader organizational accountability and coordination.
Participate in other Move to Amend work, including staff and program meetings, fundraising, and anti-oppression work.

Qualifications

Minimum two years organizing or organizing support experience is preferred.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to be able to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and work independently as well as part of a team.

Some college preferred.

Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Sense of quality control and strong attention to detail.

Advanced computer and internet proficiency, including MS Word/Excel, Powerpoint, Google Apps, Facebook and Twitter.

Neat, organized, well-spoken and welcoming to the public.

Experience with non-profit organizations and/or political campaigns a plus.

Passion for the mission of Move to Amend.

Commitment to economic, racial, and gender justice.

Residence in Humboldt County, CA or ability to relocate to Humboldt County, CA (possible relocation assistance is available for the right person)

Additional Recommended Qualifications

Spanish-language proficiency a plus, but not required.

Experience with Basecamp, Nationbuilder, Drupal or Vocus a plus, but not required

Driver’s license, car insurance, and access to a reliable automobile preferred.

General fluency with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for graphics work a plus, but not required.

Physical & Mental Requirements of Job

All job functions listed above involve to a greater or lesser degree the following physical demands: close vision, hearing/listening, clear complete speech, touching, finger & hand dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting; must be able to lift 40 lbs; complex speaking, reading, writing, clerical, perception/comprehension, exceptional judgment and decision-making skills.
Compensation

Part-time, 20-30 hours/week, starting pay $12/hr, increase to $13.50 after six months, and $15/hr after one year.

Possible relocation assistance to Humboldt County, CA available for the right person.
