Join the Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA) and become part of an energetic team of advocates that provides a wide-range of legal services aimed to address issues that disproportionately impact the poor. These services include litigation, providing training and technical assistance, and community education.

NLSLA is seeking a Legal Secretary for its Pacoima office. The ideal candidate will perform a full range of legal secretarial and administrative duties, including preparation of court forms, pleadings, correspondence, memoranda, reports and contractual documents. Litigation experience strongly preferred. Complies with contractual requirements and ensures proper documentation and tracking of case file in accordance with program and grant requirements. Will work directly with program clients. Schedules meetings and coordinates special projects and events. Shares workload with other program secretaries.

Salary: $35,000.00 – $50,016.24 Salary commensurate with experience. NLSLA offers a choice of medical plans, and a choice of dental plans, life and disability insurance, 125 plan, 403b with employer contribution, sick, vacation and 13 employer- paid holidays and bilingual differential.

Duties and Responsabilites: Provides translation and interpretation of conversations and documents, as required. Makes travel arrangements. Maintains files and performs data entry tasks. Ability to multi-task and rapidly switch priorities required. Thorough knowledge of organization’s policies, procedures, program and services required to excel.

Qualifications: Minimum of 2-4 years experience as a legal or executive assistant industry or non-profit environment (preferred). Litigation experience required. Immigration experience and knowledge of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services desirable. Computer skills – proficient at MS Office suite, Immigrant Pro. and Excel. Familiarity with database software. Excellent communication (oral, written) and organization skills. Team player with bilingual skills in Spanish required. Commitment to public interest work with sensitivity to needs of low income individuals in crisis situations required.

Program Description: Neighborhood Legal Services (NLSLA) is one of Los Angeles County’s leading public interest law offices and has been the primary legal aid program serving the San Fernando Valley for 40 years and the San Gabriel/Pomona Valleys since 2001. The NLS staff of 100+, including 40 lawyers, provides legal assistance to low-income individuals, families and groups in the areas of family law and domestic violence, housing, health care, education, public benefits, economic and job development, immigrant rights, consumer rights, and environmental justice. The NLS LA program offices are located in the cities of El Monte, Glendale and Pacoima.
