Position Overview: The Manager of Advocacy and Government Affairs will foster and cultivate relationships with rare disease patients and patient organizations as well as federal and state government officials. This role is designed to empower and engage patient advocates to achieve legislative victories on behalf of the rare disease community. The Manager will be responsible for assisting with legislative activities (advocacy and lobbying), writing and disseminating action alerts, and managing monthly legislative calls and newsletters. This position will perform relevant administrative tasks when needed and may need to support other projects, depending on the Foundation’s requirements. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) based in Novato, CA. Foundation personnel are eligible for up to two days/week of telecommute. Periodic travel (15-20%) to Washington, D.C. and other major cities for legislative activities is expected. About the Foundation: The EveryLife Foundation is dedicated to accelerating biotech innovation for rare disease treatments through science-driven public policy. The Foundation is an agent for change of the drug development system, positioned at the intersection between the patients and families of the rare disease community, science and industry experts, and policymakers at the state and federal levels. These efforts will be reinforced and complimented by grassroots support, researchers in academia, and industry experts.
Qualifications:
• 2-3 years of experience in health advocacy or direct legislative experience at the state and/or federal levels
• Familiarity with the legislative process at the state and/or federal levels
• Minimum of bachelor’s degree; master’s degree in public health or public policy preferred; educational background in the health sciences preferred
• Superb communication skills – must be a capable presenter and experienced writer
• Ability to prioritize, take initiative, think strategically, and execute projects with limited supervision • Commitment, passion, and drive for the Foundation’s mission Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assist in managing advocacy and lobbying efforts at the state and national levels, relating to newborn screening and incentivizing biomedical innovation • Compose monthly legislative newsletters • Compose action alerts
• Assist in managing the Foundation’s key programs: Rare Disease Legislative Advocates (RDLA) – Rare Disease Week, In-District Lobby Days, and Regional Legislative Conferences Community Congress – Assist with quarterly webinars and/or working group activities as needed
• Coordinate coalitions, assist with alliance development, and/or activate grassroots advocates • Assist in social media advocacy campaigns
