Partnership/OrganizationsNARAL Pro-Choice Ohio, Preterm, Ohio Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, and New Voices Cleveland are launching a fellowship for women who have accessed abortion services in Cleveland. With the support of the Educational Foundation of America, this dynamic partnership of reproductive health, rights and justice organizations have come together to form “Patients to Advocates: A Fellowship for Future Leaders.” These paid fellowships will prepare women who have had abortions to serve as advocates on these issues in their community, and will amplify their voices through a focused canvassing effort that will help to drive culture change and engage voters.

PositionThe Patients to Advocates partnership is seeking a passionate and skilled person to provide administrative, programmatic and advocacy coordination for the Fellowship. This two-year, contract position will be based in Cleveland, and will require an average of 32 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours. The ideal candidate will have a background in social work and bring knowledge and connections with reproductive health, rights and justice issues and organizations in Ohio. Experience in developing and managing an issues-based door-to-door and telephone canvass is desirable, though training will be available. It is equally important, if not primary that candidates for this position have a lived experience and analysis represented at the intersections of race, gender identity/expression, sexual identity/expression and class. The coordinator will interact extensively with each class of fellows so cultural awareness, experience and sensitivity are critical to the success of this position. Additionally, while the coordinator will directly report to the executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio, s/he will work closely with all of the project partners.

Coordinator Responsibilities

Programmatic

Work with partners to develop and implement curriculum modules for fellows
Assist with screening and selection of fellowship class
Oversee fellows
Coordinate opening retreat and fellowship capstone events
With partners, coordinate and manage annual trip to Columbus with fellows
Oversee door-to-door summer canvass, including hiring and managing paid canvassers
Schedule monthly community learning activities
Work with fellows to provide opportunities for increased responsibility, skills development, and ownership of advocacy work
With the fellows when possible, represent the coalition at community events that raise awareness and educate the public around reproductive health, rights, and justice issues
Work closely with project partners to devise and implement compelling external messaging about fellowship for use in press releases, social media, and other communications platforms

Administrative

Maintain comprehensive records of all programmatic activities for project reporting
Track fellows’ hours and participation for stipend payments
Coordinate childcare and transportation reimbursement for fellows
Manage hourly staff for summer canvass activities
Basic bookkeeping

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and skills:

Demonstrated commitment to reproductive rights, health, and justice
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong problem-solving abilities
Experience planning and implementing a political canvass, with proficiency in voter management systems (i.e., VAN or Catalist), online advocacy tools, virtual phonebanks/online predictive dialers, and Microsoft Office
Background in events planning and implementation
Exceptional organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and strategic thinking
Superior work ethic and flexibility in work environment
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
Ability to work evenings and weekends, with some travel required
Must have reliable transportation, current auto insurance, and valid driver’s license.
