ABOUT THE NETWORK: The California Child Care Resource & Referral Network (Network), a nationally recognized non-profit membership organization, addresses the needs of families and child care providers throughout California. The Network works with local child care resource and referral (R&R) programs, to inform parents and the general public about quality child care, to assist child care providers in serving their communities, and to encourage positive policy changes on the local, state, and federal levels. RESEARCH AND POLICY AT THE NETWORK: The Networkmonitors state and federal policy issues, coordinates with its member agencies to determine local and statewide child care needs, and develops an annual policy agenda that addresses current and emerging issues that impact families, providers, and children. The Network’s Research and Policy teams are responsible for producing a range of research publications, briefs and infographics to inform the Network’s policy and advocacy work. These include the California Child Care Portfolio, the only report documenting the child care supply and parent requests for child care, data analysis on child care and development programs, and issue briefs looking at the effects of child care policy on children and families. The Research Department also conducts trainings and convenes committees to provide technical assistance to R&R programs related to data collection and technology.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Research and Policy Analyst will participate in the projects outlined above as well as other research/policy projects as needed. S/he will work closely with the Research Director to produce high quality research products that can be used for policy, advocacy and to elevate local R&Rs. S/he will assist local member agencies with data and technology needs and will provide training and technical assistance as needed. Experience and interest in child development, child care resource and referral, or other human services policy a plus. Interest and experience in quantitative and qualitative research is required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyze local R&R data as well as other publicly available datasets, including Census, American Community Survey, CA Department of Education, CA Department of Social Services, etc.
Develop data visualizations, fact sheets, and research/policy briefs as needed.
Lead communication and data collection efforts for the Data Standardization Project and R&R Services Project.
Provide training and technical assistance to local R&Rs on data collection and data reporting.
Assist with disseminating and presenting data both oral and written.
Engage in outreach activities, including posting relevant child care news and research on social media outlets and the Network’s website.
Assist with coordination and organization of meetings and trainings with research workgroups, consultants, state agencies, and the R&Rs.
Assist with other research projects as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 2 years of qualitative and/or quantitative research experience.
Experience with a statistical software program (importing, exporting, recoding data, reporting statistics) preferred.
Intermediate computer skills required (Word, Excel, ACCESS, PowerPoint)
Experience with data visualization applications (i.e. Piktochart) or Adobe CS5 desired.
Must be detail oriented and well organized.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Evidence of working under deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
