Compensation: $23.11/hr ($41,600 FTE annually)

Supervised by: MSROCProgram Manager

Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week, generally Mon-Fri.10 a.m.-6 p.m., with evenings and weekend hours as needed to implement program activities

Program and Position Summary:

The Mission SRO Collaborative works to improve living conditions and empower tenants in Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotels in the Mission District of San Francisco. Program components include outreach, tenant stabilization services, and community programs—including educational and leadership development workshops on topics such as fire prevention, disaster preparedness, tenant rights, and housing justice issues.

The Coordinator will represent the Mission in the SRO Families United Collaborative (SROFU), a city-wide partnership that supports families in SRO hotels in San Francisco. The SROFU works to link families to needed services, as well as advocating and organizing with them for more appropriate housing options. The Coordinator will take a lead role in planning and overseeing DSCS’s work with families in its SRO Collaborative, developing a work plan for family stabilization and organizing, as well as, implementing the plan in the Mission. This position will require someone with knowledge and experience serving and mobilizing vulnerable Latino and low income families, dealing with different forms of trauma and oppression.

Principle Responsibilities:

Oversee all aspects of the SROFU work in the Mission to ensure implementation of program activities

Maintain communication and coordination between SROFU and MSROC to promote integration between programming for individuals and families in Mission-based SROs

Coordinate regular community events and activities, working closely with other SROFU member organizations to achieve common organizing goals

Represent DSCS/MSROC in program meetings of the SROFU Collaborative

Create and facilitate educational workshops on issues related to housing, tenant rights, health, employment and other relevant issues for families

Develop and implement a work plan to provide stabilization for and to organize families in the Mission.

Provide individual and group supervision to 2 peer outreach staff members (Promotoras).

Conduct regular outreach ensuring hotels are following the housing code minimum habitability requirements, and supporting the families in the process of addressing their concerns

Work with communities labeled as “closed” to build collaborative working relationships with families and help link them to additional supportive services as needed. This would also include accompanying families to their first appointments to the referring agency.

Develop partnerships with other services providers in San Francisco to create referral streams for families

Engage in community organizing efforts affecting families in SROs in the Mission and city-wide

Additional Responsibilities include:

Hold meetings with tenants to identify and prioritize issues
Serve as a support and referral source for SRO tenants, SRO managers/owners, and other agencies on issues related to accessing services and stabilizing SRO hotels
Serve as a liaison to and maintain familiarity with city agencies, community and neighborhood groups, collaborative partners and social service organizations that work with SRO tenants
Generate reports, collect data, and perform other program-related administrative tasks
Ability to work with tight deadlines Perform other programmatic and organizational duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum of three years organizing and collaborative building or related experience

Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds including multiply-diagnosed, low-income populations, people who are marginally housed, LGBTQ individuals, people of color and persons with disabilities

Bilingual Spanish/English verbal and written fluency required
CA Domestic Violence Counselor Certification/ or willingness to get certification with six months of employment
Experience supervising staff supervision
Strong organizational & communication skills
Ability to work effectively, both independently and as a member of a team
Strong facilitation skills
Willingness to work flexible hours
Commitment to racial and economic justice issues
