Staff Attorney – Catholic Charities of Los Angeles Inc

The Staff Attorney will coordinate parish-based programs providing groups processing and individual representation for individuals seeking to apply for U.S. Citizenship and Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The Staff Attorney will also provide legal representation to immigrants in removal proceedings and related state court proceedings, focusing particularly on complex cases involving Citizenship, DACA, T visas, and U visas. The Staff Attorney will be expected to carry a caseload consisting of a variety of affirmative and defensive immigration cases. The Staff Attorney will report to the Director of Immigration and Refugee Services.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for coordinating all Citizenship and DACA programs and handle Immigration complex cases.

Provide community education services, including Citizenship, DACA, and AB60 presentations, intakes of potential clients, and pro se workshops.

Provide zealous representation to Catholic Charities’ clients in front of the Executive Office for Immigration Review, the Board of Immigration Appeals, Citizenship and Immigration Services, and various California State Courts.

Ensure all grants reporting requirements and data collections needs are satisfied.

Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate degree;
Active, California State Bar License,
Experience (including internships) in the practice of law, preferably in immigration and/or public interest law;
Strong case management, legal research, and legal writing skills required;
Experience working with vulnerable client populations, particularly with children, is a huge plus;
Demonstrated ability and willingness to zealously pursue novel and “outside-the-box” legal theories;
Spanish language proficiency required and will be tested at time of interview;
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under pressure required;

Los Angeles – Our office is located at 1530 James M. Wood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90015.

Employment Type: Full Time, Exempt.

Salary:

$55,000 – 57,805 annually D.O.E. + generous benefits package, including health, dental, vision, sick and vacation time, and 10 paid holidays/year. All new hires are subject to a 6 month probationary period.
