Staff Immigration Attorney – UnLocal Inc – New York, NY

UnLocal, Inc. is a small, grassroots non-profit organization providing direct immigration legal services and immigration-related education to immigrant communities and our partner community-based organizations in and around New York City.

We are recruiting a Staff Immigration Attorney to join our team in a multi-faceted role representing mostly children and families with children who are in removal proceedings. This is a very unique opportunity for a dedicated, creative and passionate individual who thrives in a challenging and collaborative work environment. We are looking for someone who can take on a leadership role at UnLocal, Inc. and will be a good fit in terms of experience, vision and quality of work.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide individual legal representation and advocacy in immigration matters, including SIJS, Asylum, Adjustment of Status Applications, DACA/DAPA, post-deportation relief, etc. in both administrative and court proceedings;
Assist with holistic advocacy by assessing the additional needs of our clients and connecting them with support in areas including education, health care, housing, etc.;
Manage immigrant youth case docket;
Supervise fellows, law clerks, interns and probono volunteers;
Present on immigration topics in a wide-variety of settings, including public schools, community-based organizations, religious institutions, etc.;
Document and report service delivery, administer client surveys, and implement recommendations to ensure compliance with funding requirements;
Assistance with building internal policies as our organization grows.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

J.D. Degree and admission to New York State Bar;
At least two years relevant immigration law experience, including SIJS, Asylum, deportation defense and family law experience;
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory (other languages are a plus);
Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, manage multiple tasks and problem solve;
Experience in public speaking and/or teaching;
Passion for addressing the legal needs of undocumented individuals;
Experience working with youth;
Desire to assist in our organization’s growth.
