JOB SUMMARY
Wellspring Advisors, a philanthropic consulting firm that develops and administers grantmaking programs, is seeking a New York–based Program Officer who will be responsible for the overall strategy and implementation of grantmaking related to Women’s Rights and Reproductive Rights, especially in the prevention of violence against women (VAW) and/or reproductive rights.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Educate donor-clients on issues related to women rights and reproductive rights, especially in the areas of VAW prevention and/or reproductive rights, and on funding strategies for advancing them in Africa, and Latin America.
• Develop and shape grantmaking programs that advance strategies on reproductive rights and on prevention of violence against women, including development of strategic plans and work plans.
• Manage a large portfolio of grants, from solicitation through assessment, recommendation, and evaluation; manage the program’s budget as well as relationships with grantees.
• Write and edit grant write-ups (proposal summaries, staff analyses) and other materials for presentation to donor clients.
• Remain up-to-date on women and reproductive rights issues, strategies, and funding trends, domestically and internationally.
• Engage with the community of donors and NGOs working to advance women and reproductive rights in the US, Africa, and Latin America, and maintain contact with leading experts, especially related to VAW prevention and reproductive rights.
• Identify appropriate partners and collaborations to advance grantmaking strategies.
• Explore new models of grantmaking.
• Engage in capacity building for the grantees/field.
• Meet with grantees and conducting site visits in the United States and internationally.
• Actively participate in the advancement of organization-wide initiatives.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
• A graduate degree in international development or a related field.
• 7+ years experience in women’s rights and/or reproductive rights, especially in the areas of violence prevention and/or abortion rights.
• Familiarity with the women and reproductive rights NGO and donor communities, domestically and internationally.
• Excellent research and writing skills; ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with people from outside the reproductive rights field.
• Close attention to follow-up and detail; ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
• Experience working in Africa and Latin America, or in partnership with African and Latin
American NGOs.
• Experience writing or reviewing grant proposals; strategic planning, evaluation, or other technical assistance skills a plus.
• Ability to handle confidential client information with complete discretion.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
• Spanish language fluency
• Strong knowledge of research on prevention of VAW and intimate partner violence (IPV)
• Strong knowledge of and experience in reproductive rights advocacy and/or service delivery
