DESCRIPTION
The Afterschool Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for creating a positive, dynamic, and supportive afterschool environment for the youth enrolled in Marina ExCEL Afterschool Program (MEAP). Collaborating with MEAP and Marina Middle School leadership, students and their families, the Afterschool Community Engagement Coordinator will increase and enhance the quality of Presidio YMCA’s services at Marina Middle School, including afterschool and lunchtime programming, as well as evening programming for MEAP families.
The Marina ExCEL Afterschool Program is a partnership between the Presidio YMCA and the San Francisco Unified School District. The top priority of MEAP is to teach the participants viable school, leadership, and life skills through using a youth development philosophy in recreational, academic, and enrichment activities taking place after school.
Responsibilities and Duties
Develop, implement, and lead lunchtime programming with the input of youth and school teachers and counselors.
Develop, implement, and host MEAP family workshops or events with the input of families and school counselors.
Develop, implement, and lead a service-learning, project-based leadership program afterschool for youth in 7th and 8th.
Infuse engaging programming options throughout afterschool, including enhancing homework time, ensuring enrichment and recreational activities are robust and incorporate career- and college-readiness components, and providing a bi-weekly Friday fieldtrip.
Implement STEM, literacy, Healthy Eating & Physical Activity (HEPA), and arts components throughout MEAP activities that support the needs of the regular school day.
Coordinate and collaborate with all site-based student support services.
Plan and develop Presidio Y’s summer 2018 program taking place at Marina Middle School.
Qualifications and Skills
Age: Minimum of 21 years of age required.
Education: BA preferred. Minimum education: An AA degree or higher OR Official transcripts reflecting 48 college units and a high school diploma/equivalent OR Completion of CBEST and a high school diploma/equivalent OR Completion of CODESP and a high school diploma/equivalent OR Instructional Aide exam through SFUSD.
Availability: Monday – Friday 30-35 hours per week, including the hours encompassing program from 3:00-6:45. Flexible hours to suit varied schedule of programming in accordance with the SFUSD calendar and program needs.
Experience:
Required: Two years of experience leading enrichment or academic activities with groups of youth or two years of experience supervising youth development program staff.
Knowledge of lesson planning and implementation.
Knowledge of a variety of classroom and behavior management techniques.
Demonstrated experience collaborating and building relationships with others.
Experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
Proficiency with Outlook, Excel, Word required.
