Alternative To Detention Program Coordinator – New York – Center for Court Innovation

The Center for Court Innovation, a project of the Fund for the City of New York, is a non-profit organization that promotes new thinking about how to reduce crime and incarceration while strengthening public trust in justice. The Center creates operating projects, including the award-winning Red Hook Community Justice Center and Midtown Community Court, that have been documented to improve public safety and reduce the use of jail and prison. Nationally and internationally, the Center performs original research on topics of justice reform and provides consulting services to criminal justice innovators.

The Staten Island Youth Justice Center offers an array of programming for local youth, with a particular focus on engaging those with justice involvement. Current initiatives include a teen-led youth court, an alternative to detention program, and a job readiness program. The comprehensive programming offers all participating young people leadership development and service opportunities designed to promote positive engagement in the Staten Island community. The Center seeks an Alternative to Detention Program Coordinator who will report to the Deputy Project Director and be responsible for the coordination of the Youth Justice Center’s alternative to detention program and related community outreach and engagement strategies.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Coordinate all aspects of the Project READY Alternative to Detention Program, including curriculum design and implementation, afterschool activity scheduling and oversight, supervision of interns/volunteers, engagement of families, and ongoing community outreach;
Coordinate additional youth and community programs as needed;
Liaise with area schools, community-based organizations, and community boards to promote knowledge of and collaboration with existing programs;
Oversee data-collection, tracking, and reporting to court players;
Develop, facilitate, implement, coordinate and supervise daily after school programming for all youth enrolled in the program;
Routinely coordinate with other program staff to improve service delivery;
Conduct compliance monitoring as mandated by court partners;
Participate in all staff meetings and staff development activities;
Assist with event planning and special initiatives as needed.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred. The ideal candidate will have at least two (2) years of experience working with at-risk young people. Computer literacy, and knowledge of community-based resources in the North Shore of Staten Island are strongly preferred. Knowledge of the juvenile justice system, positive youth justice, some experience in a supervisory role preferred. Candidates must have the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally-competent manner.

Position Type: Full-time. Regular hours are 10:30 am to 6:30 pm with some evening and weekend responsibilities.
