Alliance for Multicultural Community Services is seeking AmeriCorps VISTA members to be part of a dynamic, multi-site project that is enhancing refugee services in Houston, TX. The goal of the Houston Refugee VISTA Project is to strengthen the capacity of non-profits that serve refugees and immigrants through education, social services, and economic opportunity. As resettlment agencies, we offer a wide range of services to newly-arrived refugees and asylees from over 20 countries.
Alliance Site: The Community Resource VISTA will help engage the community in Alliance’s mission and services; research and submit grant proposals; and strengthen our communication system with donors, community partners and stakeholders.
Catholic Charities Site: The Community Engagement VISTA will collaborate with event leaders of World Refugee Day Houston to organize a citywide event that celebrates Houston’s diversity and refugee cultures. This position will work closely with Catholic Charities’ case managers to increase refugees’ access to services, improve resource guides for refugees, and help develop ESL/Civics resources for older refugees.
Qualifications: Demonstrate an interest and/or personal commitment to community development. Must have a bachelor’s degree and be available to start on April 21, 2015.
