Assistant Principal – Caliber Schools – Richmond, CA

Our first school, Caliber: Beta Academy opened in Richmond, CA in 2014.

The AP for SEL and School Culture is one of our critical leadership positions. The AP will be responsible for the school’s social and emotional curriculum as well as for student behavior, enrichment, overseeing SPED and parent programs. The AP will be responsible for ensuring that the Caliber environment feels safe, positive and transformative.

This position requires a creative and inspiring educator with adult leadership experience, high energy, excellent organizational abilities and a talent for creating a warm and supportive environment for children.

Key responsibilities

Ensuring that Caliber has a safe and positive but rigorous and aspirational school culture
Implementing the SEL curriculum and providing thoughtful and engaging PD around it.
Consistent and effective implementation of the school behavior policy
Student wellbeing, safety and attendance
Parent engagement and Parent education program
Community Engagement
Support Special Education administrator and SPED program
Develop engaging after school and holiday enrichment programs
Ensure the attendance policy is followed so that attendance and punctuality is exemplary
Student Behavior – Ensure that all consequences are aligned with school policy

Preferred experience

Experience of raising attainment in a challenging classroom environment.
Experience of leading a high achieving team within a complex school environment*.
Experience of leading, coaching and managing staff.
Experience of having provided high quality leadership to cohorts of children
Knowledge of SEL curriculum and instructional programs and practices for appropriate grade levels (Restorative Justice, Mindfulness, and PBIS)
Knowledge of SPED programming and regulatory framework
Knowledge of enrichment programs including after school and vacation programs and field trips
Knowledge of scheduling
Experience as an instructional coach
Experience in the day-to-day operations and programming needs of a school
Experience working with a diverse group of people in an effective manner
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Spanish fluency a plus.
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize
Ability to use data in the decision-making process

Qualifications

Administrative Credential
Minimum of three (3) years classroom teaching experience and/or administrative experience
Proven track record of high achievement in the classroom and success managing school systems
Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player
Strong alignment with Caliber’s core beliefs and educational philosophy
