Building Specialist – Seattle – Compass Housing Alliance

ABOUT THE POSITION: The Building Specialist maintains a security presence in the reception and lobby area. They observe, record, and respond as needed to the comings and goings of guests, staff and residents, maintain a safe and comfortable environment for residents, and respond to tenant issues as appropriate.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Operating on a “housing first” model, Nyer Urness House provides 80 units of permanent housing to formerly homeless adults. Supportive services include case management, a medical clinic operated by Neighborcare Health on-site, daily meals and other community building resources. The community is named for the Rev. Nyer Urness, whose philosophy of ‘meeting people where they are’ is a fundamental principle of the work at Nyer Urness House.

LOCATION: Nyer Urness House in Ballard
REPORTS TO: Property Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non- Exempt
SCHEDULE: There are currently 2 open positions

1 Thursday 3pm-11:30pm, Friday-Monday 11pm-7:30am
2 Friday-Tuesday 3-11:30pm
SALARY RANGE: DOE and within Compass ranges

QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree is strongly desired, Bachelor’s degree preferred in social services or social work related field. Or relevant work experience, certificate and/or equivalent continuing professional development or education.
1 years’ experience in building security work, desired.
1 years’ experience in human services (work and/or volunteer), preferably working with homeless adults, the economically disadvantaged, mentally ill or chemically dependent, desired.
Familiarity with issues of homelessness, mental illness, chemical dependency, sexual assault, and/or domestic violence, preferred.
Experience working with clients whom English is a second language or where there is limited English ability.
