DESCRIPTION
Training Futures (TF) is a nationally recognized, innovative workforce development program of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS). In operation since 1996, the goal of Training Futures is to increase economic opportunity through employment by teaching marketable job skills to economically disadvantaged unemployed or underemployed, high-potential adults in a simulated office environment. TF serves 85 individuals a year through two, six-month cohorts at the Tysons Corner training site. TF’s high-expectations, high-support training model empowers trainees to consistently complete the training, obtain professional employment, and increase wages on a level that gives families a pathway out of poverty.
The Workforce Development Trainer delivers an integrated training curriculum to Training Futures trainees and will be responsible for hands-on instruction (including online and email communications) as well as individual support and encouragement of Trainees to ensure employment success. All staff members at TF are responsible for upholding the high-expectations, high-support program model which requires patience, understanding, compassion and discipline. All NVFS employees are expected to demonstrate the organizational values and sensitivity to the diversity of the organization’s client base.
Job responsibilities include:
Training:
Effectively present, facilitate and deliver assigned, Business English training course two days per week.
Formulate lesson plans, training aids, and innovate instructional methods to support growth and development of the Trainees.
Achieve and demonstrate a level of mastery of assigned curriculum by creating optimal learning experience.
Support classroom activities that promote imaginative learning.
Trainee Supervision:
Develop supportive professional working relationship with trainees and provide encouragement and support to ensure progress towards goals and job attainment, including direct supervision of 8-12 trainees.
Track and support trainee progress and participation, ensuring trainees are able to demonstrate necessary skills and competencies to be successful in preparation for internship and/or regular employment and job search.
Program Support:
Build and maintain alumni community by developing methods of regular contact with graduates including written, social media and face-to-face contact
Work closely with Director of Workforce Development to develop and maintain relationships with key area employers (HR, recruiters, staffing agency, managers, etc.), identify job leads, and identify partnership opportunities in the business community
Track and maintain long-term alumni outcome data including job retention
Operate a Graduate Lab to support and encourage program graduates to continue job search efforts
Plan and execute alumni outreach events in coordination with Program Manager and staff
Education and experience required:
Bachelor’s degree in related field
At least two (2) years related work experience in workforce development, adult education or career and alumni engagement
Ability to teach to and engage many skill levels and learning styles within one classroom
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Successful completion of background checks required upon hire
