REPORTS TO: Board of Directors

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The business director is hired by the board to exercise responsibility for the business leadership and operations of the Center. He or she hires and supervises administrative staff, implements and manages business processes and controls, and works with the board on fundraising and marketing. The primary duty is coordination of major responsibilities to make sure that they are carried out by administrative staff, Board, volunteers, contractors or someone else.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Leadership

Champion the vision and mission of the organization
Meet regularly with clinicians, wellness and education personnel and admin staff to foster goal alignment, cooperation, clear communication, and accountability
Recommend strategies for Center development
Guide the Center’s planning processes
Work with Board to develop strategic business plan
Establish an organizational culture which subscribes to the highest standards of business and clinical conduct

Administration and Office Management

Hire and supervise administrative staff
Recruit volunteers and supervise their work
Develop and implement office policies and practices
Train Center administrative staff on new or changed procedures and provide first line support for user questions
Coordinate bookkeeping, payroll, and insurance billing services
Coordinate administrative support for directors, clinicians, and the board of directors.
Coordinate administrative support for fundraising, marketing, and public relations
Coordinate statistical, financial, and personnel record-keeping
Manage the Center’s facilities and physical environment
Prepare monthly reports, analyses, and other materials for the board of directors meetings

Budget and Finance

Keep the board informed about the Center’s financial position
Supervise financial management and financial reporting
Work with Treasurer to develop and manage the budget
Determine administrative staff compensation

Vendor Administration

Manage relationship with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) vendor and ongoing administration and maintenance of EMR system
Ensure process and data quality
Review, negotiate and make recommendations to the Board on any new contracts.
Maintain efficient and secure technology infrastructure

Fundraising

Assess the Center’s needs and resources
Work with the board to develop a fiscal strategy and fundraising plan
Implement the fundraising efforts

Marketing and Public Relations

Develop marketing strategy
Coordinate marketing and public relations
Represent the Center to the larger community

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Office management experience at a nonprofit organization

Combination of strategic planning, results orientation, and adaptability required to support a fast moving startup
Strong leadership skills, including organizing, collaborating, prioritizing, delegating, supervising, and motivating
Demonstrated business judgment and the ability to make sound recommendations and decisions
Extensive experience with an organization using electronic medical records (EMR) system, including process definition and support
Strong working knowledge of accounting
Marketing and fundraising experience
Ability to implement and maintain effective business processes and controls
Clear communication skills, both written and oral
Willingness to initiate action and exert leadership in organizational life, while taking direction from Board of Directors
Ability to create a hospitable and smoothly functioning environment for administrative staff, clinicians, clients, and visitors to the Center
High ethical standards
Bachelor’s degree. MBA preferred.
Open to the possibility of the Business Director also being a licensed clinician
