ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION: Camp Korey is an independent 501-c3 Association, founded in 2005 by Tim Rose to honor his son Korey, a vivacious teen who lost his battle with bone cancer at eighteen. Camp Korey empowers children living with serious medical conditions and their families through free year-round programs. Camp Korey offers an array of programs including Residential Summer Camp, Family Weekends, and Camp to You outreach. Camp Korey, situated on the historic 818-acre Carnation Farm, is no run-of-the-mill summer camp. Century-old barns and farm have been renovated to include a high quality medical facility, swimming pool, sports courts, climbing wall, costume room, zip-line, camper lodges and teepee village, combining to exceed every kid’s wildest dreams! Camp Korey is a member of the SeriousFun Children’s Network founded by Paul Newman.

CAMP KOREY SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS: With a strong Board of Directors and Executive Team, Camp Korey is entering its second decade of providing life-changing therapeutic recreation to children with serious and life-altering medical conditions. This is an exciting time for Camp Korey as the organization enters a growth phase with plans of a capital campaign to double its current capacity by building additional cabins to serve more campers. The Board and Executive Team are committed to supporting an aggressive Fund Development Plan to support this growth and have allocated staff and resources to realize their long-term goals. With a history of strong financial support from the community and individual donors, the staff and Board of Camp Korey are confident the organization is well positioned for growth.

PURPOSE & ROLE: Camp Korey seeks a Camp Director who is passionate and understands the significant role the organization plays in the lives of families and children living with serious medical conditions. The ideal candidate will be an engaging leader with the energy, talents, and experience required to further program development and posses the following skills and attributes to guide the organization into its next phase:

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

    Camp Program:
Oversee all aspects of Camp Operations (summer camp, family weekends, camper reunions, and camp to you) including camp programming, residential life and camper recruitment
Provide a positive camp experience based on intentional programming
In collaboration with the Medical Director, develop the annual Camp Program Calendar
Supervise and support the Camp to You program manager in the sustainability and expansion of all community based programs
2015 Camper Goal: 5,439 participants, increase of 600 from 2014 with primary growth anticipated in Family Weekends and Camp to You program

    Staff Development & Supervision:
Build and manage a cohesive team which creates a positive culture through clear objectives, evaluations, and rewards
Recruit, train and manage all camp program and residential staff
Direct Reports: Program Manager and Camp To You (CTY) Manager
Indirect Reports: Full Time – Residential Life Coordinator, Program Coordinator, Entertainment Coordinator and Seasonal Summer staff 22+   

Operational Management:
In partnership with finance team develop and manage the annual camp operations budget of $825,000
Record Keeping: maintain all necessary camp records
Post-program Assessments: compile summary of current season including inventories, staff evaluation, camper profiles, and recommendations for the following season
Compliance: oversee licensing for camp and its staff ensuring to maintain compliance with Washington State law, American Camping Association (ACA) accreditation and SeriousFun Children’s Network criteria and Accords

Partnerships and Community Outreach:
Act as a spokesperson and ambassador for the mission able to build and maintain strong community relationships
Develop partnerships with other mission related organizations for programming at Camp Korey, draft related contracts outlining expectations and goals for partnerships with stakeholders for review by ED
As member of the Executive Team participate in capital campaign to increase camper capacity and further program reach

REQUIRED CRITERIA:

Master’s Degree preferred, Bachelor’s Degree required
Three to five years of leadership experience within specialty camp operations or similar medically focused youth programming
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong problem solving and strategic management ski
