Hours: 30 – 40 hours / week, non-exempt

About the Agency

The Monterey County Rape Crisis Center (MCRCC) is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to advocate for all victims and survivors of sexual assault and child sexual abuse, to prevent sexual violence in our community through education, and to provide ongoing support and healing to survivors of sexual assault.

Overview

Reporting to the Deputy Director, the CHAT Case Manager provides logistic and emotional support to survivors of sexual violence under the age of 18 and significant others.

The CHAT Case Manager conveys empathy, respect, and compassion in any interactions with clients and the public. The CHAT Case Manager is a member of a high-performing team who supports all activities related to supporting survivors of sexual violence including case coordination, case management, Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) response, survivor accompaniment to court and law enforcement interviews and legal advocacy, and individual and group therapy. The CHAT Case Manager must effectively communicate survivor needs and/or any requests by community partners to the Crisis Intervention team.

The CHAT Case Manager must respond effectively, timely, calmly, and with empathy and compassion survivors of sexual violence and significant others in therapy sessions and ongoing case management in close partnership with the Crisis Intervention Team.

Major Functions

Provide crisis intervention, accompaniment to hospital(s) for forensic exams, advocacy and information/referral to victims of child abuse who are under the age of 18, primarily during regular office hours
Provide outreach services as needed
Ensure clients receive information on crime victim compensation services by referring the child/client to the local Victim/Witness Program
Assist and help child clients prepare to attend criminal justice procedures by referring the child client to the local Victim/Witness Program
Provide transportation services for the child victim and non-offending family member and/or caregiver
Coordinate with the Monterey County Department of Health, the Monterey County SART/CART Program, law enforcement personnel to ensure victims of child abuse are connected to available services
Ensure all CHAT program staff have successfully completed required criminal background checks and maintain documentation of completion
Monitor and track statistical information for reports to funder(s) as needed
Meet with non-offending family members/caregivers to assist with therapeutic services for the child
Provide information and make referrals to community services as appropriate
Maintain non-clinical documentation of client files as appropriate
Supervise Volunteer Certified Sexual Assault Victim Counselors as needed
Ensure appropriate documentation of client files is maintained by all clinical staff
Work collaboratively with the Crisis Intervention team to provide support to clients outside therapy sessions
Respond to requests for records verification of counseling and Subpoenas
Review and monitor counseling files and progress reports
Enter case information into client management software
Collect and maintain statistics regarding individual cases
Assist in conducting client satisfaction surveys
Maintain confidentiality of all client and sensitive information
Perform agency and program administrative and operational tasks, as needed
Uphold and adhere to the policies and bylaws of the organization
Remain current with news, new legislation, reporting laws, child abuse and sexual violence research in general
Report regularly to the Deputy Director and otherwise to insure that s/he is fully informed of all program activities
Carry out other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Deputy Director

Major Qualifications

Certified as a Sexual Assault Victim Counselor under section 1035 of the California Evidence Code for more than six months
BA/BS or equivalent experience in Communications, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or related field
Bilingual, bi-cultural and bi-literate skills are strongly preferred
Experience in delivery of direct services to child abuse victims
Understanding of mandated reporting requirements
Criminal background clearance through the Department of Justice
Knowledgeable about the dynamics of child abuse
Understanding of mandated reporting requirements
Understanding of child abuse and sexual assault, and commitment to ending sexual violence
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Must have the ability to establish rapport with diverse audiences, and be sensitive to diverse groups
Familiarity with Monterey County and community resources
Strong planning and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks
Strong leadership skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to use relevant technology
Willing to work flexible hours including some evenings, early mornings and weekends as needed
Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and carry vehicle insurance
Criminal background clearance through the Department of Justice
