College Access Program Advisor – Los Angeles – Fulfillment Fund

Job description
General Summary: Responsible for the implementation of College Access Program at local High Schools. The College Access Program Advisor helps coordinate all aspects of the College Access Program including curriculum delivery, workshops, student advisement sessions, and recruitment/outreach for various Fulfillment Fund Programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Supervisor)

Deliver weekly in-class lessons of the College Access Program curriculum
Prepare for off-site service delivery weekly (classroom materials, lesson plans, classroom activities, supplies, etc.)
Meet with students individually to review academic records and provide assistance with academic planning and decision-making
Perform ongoing research on pressing educational issues and best practices as it relates to the established curriculum and college access
Create, strengthen and maintain working relationships with school partners
Communicate regularly with teachers and administrators regarding program needs and program activities to ensure efficient onsite operation of the program
Recommend modifications to existing curriculum/program materials and create instructional activities in collaboration with the College Access Program team
Develop and maintain short-term and long-term programs and projects on a year-round basis
Initiate student outreach by conducting individualized meetings to ensure student needs are met, and to encourage regular participation in program activities and opportunities
Work interdepartmentally and with Program Events staff to coordinate local experiential learning day trips
Help recruit for, coordinate, plan and implement enrichment program opportunities
Participate in on-going professional development trainings
Be familiar with and informed about all policies and concerns related to California Community Colleges, and UC/CSU, and private college admissions
Be familiar with and informed about all policies and concerns related to federal and state financial aid
Have basic knowledge of LAUSD structure, policies, procedures and student graduation requirements
Periodically collect and validate student related data and submit reports regularly
Work closely with supervisor to coordinate school site visits with organization supporters, donors, and board members
Use social media to highlight student involvement and accomplishments, and to increase awareness about the organization’s impact
Help coordinate additional special projects and student services as identified by the Program’s Associate Director

Maintain personal appearance and professional demeanor
Professional presentation and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently and in teams
Self-starter, anticipates needs and able to take initiative when necessary
Able to demonstrate accountability to students, organization, supervisors, team, and school-site staff
Open to sharing ideas and expertise in efforts to improve and develop existing programs
Ability to work in a fast pace environment, adapt to change, and respond favorably to feedback

Education and/or Experience:
A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred
Extensive work experience with high school students/at-risk youth
Work experience in college access and outreach
At least one year of classroom teaching experience or two years group instruction/facilitation experience
Bilingual Spanish is a plus
Credential is a plus
