API Chaya is an organization serving Asian, South Asian, and Pacific Islander survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, and survivors of human trafficking from all communities, as well as victims of general crimes. This work is done through organizing our communities to end violence and oppression, as well as through support services for survivors. We work in diverse communities, including immigrant and refugees, young people, LGBTQ, faith-based, and various ethnic and cultural groups. We are located in Seattle, WA. API Chaya is seeking a Community Organizing Program Manager who will work collaboratively with the organization’s staff, community volunteers and leaders, as well as other gender justice, civil rights, and community-based organizations to achieve our vision and mission. The Community Organizing Program Manager will meld practical experience in community organizing with a nuanced understanding of the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence, labor exploitation and human trafficking and have the ability to contextualize our work within larger movements for liberation and social justice.

The Program Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing the activities of Community Organizing staff and providing high level oversight of the Community Organizing interns and volunteers. The Program Manager will provide coaching, support, supervision, and training as needed to ensure high quality and culturally relevant community organizing programs within our communities.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Program Oversight (30-40%)

Work with Leadership Team (Co-Directors; Finance & Operations Manager and Survivor Services Program Manager; Program Advisor) to oversee the development, coordination between and implementation of API Chaya’s programs in alignment with our mission and values
Conduct strategic annual and/or multi-year program planning with Community Organizing staff and in consultation with the Leadership Team to ensure achievement of long term agency goals
Review and/or design and implement regular program evaluation for community organizing/engagement programs and activities
Regularly review (and develop when needed) documentation of procedures and other program policies informed by API Chaya’s values and movement-wide best practices
Oversee data reporting for internal and external purposes and ensure program staff provide accurate and timely reporting of data
Work with staff and Finance & Operations Manager to develop and monitor budgets within programs
Support and approve program staff time sheets and expense coding according to current grant allocations

Staff Supervision and Development (30-40%)

Develop annual work plans with staff that reflect organizational and program priorities.
Work with Leadership Team in recruitment and selection of program staff and interns.
Continue to build and refine community organizing hiring and training process
Train new staff members as needed and coordinate on-going training opportunities for all program staff
Conduct regular one-on-one supervision of staff members to give feedback, support professional growth, and ensure staff work is in alignment with organizational values and in adherence to organizational policies and goals
Conduct annual evaluations of staff performance
Conduct regular group coordination and supervision meetings with API Chaya’s Community Organizing programs
Be available after hours and weekends by phone to consult with staff members when emergent situations arise

Relationship Building & Movement Engagement (15%)

Develop and maintain strong relationships with strategic partners in key organizations and various communities
Attend select local, regional and occasionally statewide and national meetings and conferences to ensure API Chaya’s perspective and our constituents’ needs are represented
Attend select local, county and occasionally statewide community planning meetings with public funders to promote API Chaya and its services and report on progress and unmet needs
Conduct select trainings, provision of technical assistance, and speaking engagement

Other (15%)

Assist Development Team with grants proposals
Work with Development Team to support successful implementation of fundraising plan
Attend ongoing trainings to further professional development and stay up-to-date on emergent trends and relevant developments in field
Other duties as assigned by Co-Director of Programs & Strategic Development

Administration

Conduct program and policy research and support creation of policies
Support human resource issues as they pertain to the advocacy program
Update files and forms, maintain client meeting room, coordinate and prep for meetings
General Support of DV, SA, & HT programs

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 4 years of full-time experience supervising community engagement/organizing programs in API, immigrant and/or refugee communities
Minimum 2 years of experience doing community engagement/organizing work
Minimum 2 years of experience supervising multiple staff members, preferably doing DV, SA, HT, or related work
Experience in or deep familiarity with immigrant and refugee communities and an understanding of how the dynamics of domestic and sexual abuse/violence and/or human trafficking play out within these communities
Understanding and support of API Chaya’s mission, vision and values and commitment to incorporate such values in day-to-day work
Superb writing, speaking and communication skills
Excellent relationship building, networking, boundary setting and conflict management skills
Nuanced critical thinking skills and understanding of how API Chaya’s work relates to other movements for liberation and social justice and the ability to help others integrate such understanding into their work
Positive attitude and ability to handle conflict effectively
Fluency in spoken and written English
Eligible to work in the United States
Driver’s license, auto insurance and use of a vehicle to drive for work purposes
Program evaluation skills

OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Enjoyment and experience working in a collaborative workplace environment
Familiarity with local API, immigrant and/or refugee communities
Familiarity with local, regional and state laws, organizations, coalitions, policies and practices regarding domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking

COMPENSATION

$43,000-$55,000 per year, based on experience. Generous personal leave and benefits package including paid vacation, personal holidays, self-care days, sick leave, and health insurance.
