Deputy Director – Hope Border Institute

DESCRIPTION
HOPE is growing and we’re in need of a motivated and adaptable team member to support our team as Deputy Director. As a strategist, consultant and implementer, the successful candidate will provide leadership and oversight for HOPE’s day-to-day functions and staff. The right candidate for the job will contribute to HOPE’s long-term success.

CONTINUING RESPONSIBILITIES
Uphold and contribute to the mission of HOPE, working collaboratively with HOPE staff and consultants, following established policies and procedures, identifying and sharing ideas for improvement, and supporting HOPE efforts verbally, in actions and attitude
Maintain an excellent working relationship with the Executive Director, assisting in facilitating effective decision-making, coordinating the execution of strategic initiatives, and providing ad-hoc analysis and decision support
Assist in the development of operating plans, goals, objectives and organizational budget and monitor organizational expenditures;
Ensure efficiency of operations by coordinating internal communications, keeping the Executive Director informed of all critical issues, and by maintaining organizational compliance with internal policies
Directly supervise HOPE employees, carrying out responsibilities in accordance with internal policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training; assigning and directing work; appraising performances
Ensure staff issues are addressed properly, efficiently and judiciously, and keep track of progress until resolved
Act on the authority of the Executive Director to oversee projects that require internal collaboration
Assess organizational inquiries, determining the proper course of action and delegating appropriately
Represent HOPE in the media and with key stakeholders
Represent Executive Director at meetings, events, functions, etc.
Prepare agendas for and chair staff meetings
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Previous Experience: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required, including strong academic credentials as well as 5+ years of significant non-profit experience, including progressively increasing managerial responsibilities

highly self-motivated work style and willingness to proactively take on projects
flexibility and the ability to deal well with ambiguity and the fast-paced nature of a new and rapidly expanding organization
excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
ability to exercise confidentiality
strong ethics and personal integrity
professional attitude and service orientation
public policy and/or advocacy experience

The following is ideal but not required:
advanced knowledge of public policy issues specific to the Mexico-US border region
