The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico seeks a dynamic team player to fill the position of Development Associate. The organization’s development programs consist primarily of major and annual gifts solicitation, bequest solicitation, and cultivation events.

The ACLU New Mexico is an affiliate e of the nationwide ACLU, the nation’s leading defender of civil liberties and civil rights guaranteed by the our nation’s Bill of Rights.
The ACLU of New Mexico has offices in Albuquerque and Las Cruces. It has a staff of 18 people and more than 4,500 members throughout New Mexico. 18 staff, and 4,500 members.
Position Overview
The Development Associate is responsible for coordinating and executing key administrative functions and helping to plan, manage and implement a multi-faceted fundraising program. This is a full-time position based in Albuquerque and reports to the Deputy Director.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
Develop comprehensive understanding of the major gifts work, which includes recognizing the names of major gift prospects, reviewing donor records for accuracy, creating or editing interaction and tracking reports.
Process incoming contributions and fundraising correspondence. Enter gift data into donor database. Maintain confidential fundraising information in database with accuracy and integrity. Maintain accurate and retrievable files electronically and in hard copy.
Support Deputy Director as needed in the process of qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding potential and current donors: research existing and potential donor prospects; create donor profiles for donor meetings; capture meeting notes in electronic database as well as hard copy donor files.
Manage grant proposal and report filings to foundations. Ultimate responsibility for submission of timely proposals and reports to grant makers. Explore new foundation and organizational funding sources.
Organize fundraising and cultivation events from start to finish including event planning, mailings, onsite coordination, and donor follow up.
Compile mailing lists and assist with the generation of the end-of-year appeals and other mailings.
Work with the Director of Philanthropy and Communications Director to develop and prepare newsletters, brochures, reports, correspondence and informational and solicitation materials for major gift and campaign activities.
Process contributions into bank accounts, code contributions into the database, and produce donor acknowledgments in timely manner
Verify the integrity and accuracy of gift information shared between national and affiliate development departments through monthly audits and reconciling discrepancies/errors. Assist in reconciling financial information discrepancies with account ledger on a monthly basis

Qualifications:
B.A. or equivalent and at least two years of relevant work experience. Experience in non-profit, advocacy or other community-based groups is valuable. Development experience is a plus.

Strong computer skills including use of the Internet, word processing, mail merges, spreadsheets, and e-mail. Proficient in Microsoft programs including Word, Excel.
Proficient in database management including report generation and analysis. Fundraising database experience is a plus.
Ability to work efficiently in a highly organized fashion with significant attention to detail
in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and discretion regarding donors and donor records.
Ability to take initiative and exercise good judgment, meet deadlines, respond promptly to requests, follow through on initiatives and manage the demands of multiple projects with a minimum of direct supervision.
Team player with a healthy sense of humor.
Ability to work occasional irregular hours that may include weekends and occasional travel.
A valid driver’s license and reliable car is necessary for travel in Albuquerque.
