We are currently recruiting for a full-time Development Associate in the Development Department located at 26 Bleecker Street, NY, NY 10012.
This in an Exempt position reporting to the Director of Special Gifts and Events.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides administrative support to the Development Department, completing routine tasks as well as special projects and assignments. Manages and coordinates mailings, schedules meetings, oversees donor acknowledgments, and donor/prospect tracking. Works closely with the individual giving area to support needs related to the annual campaign and major gifts. Assists VP with scheduling meetings, answering telephone, producing Committee mailings, and generating both routine and moderately complex correspondence and other writing assignments. Responds to supporters calling for information or to make a donation and routes donor inquiries to appropriate staff. Maintains and orders office supplies. Completes mail merges for solicitation letters for the Special Gifts campaign. Works with board members and volunteers to produce solicitation letters and notifies them of results. Produces reports on program results and maintains accurate and updated individual solicitation lists in computer. Oversees donor acknowledgments and produces personalized thank you letters. Manages the “in honor” and “in memory” program. Participates in the organization and execution of special events, as needed. Assists with invitation mailings. Maintains RSVP lists, provides background research on guests, prepares relevant materials and helps with set-up and follow-up. Oversees donor list for the annual report, including completing a large, complex mail merge that confirms how donors want to be listed, documenting their responses, and drafting the final listing for publication. Assists with donor and prospect research as needed. Learns best practices of donor research. Manages donor records and develops appropriate tracking systems.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. Requires 1-2 years of related and/or applicable experience. Must have strong writing and editing skills, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact effectively with Board members and volunteers. Attendance at evening and weekend events will sometimes be required. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or a similar donor data base preferred.
