Development Associate – San Francisco Baykeeper – Oakland, CA

For 25 years, San Francisco Baykeeper has been the Bay’s most effective advocate, taking on the greatest threats to the health of the Bay and the wildlife and communities that depend on it. Baykeeper uses advocacy, science, and legal action to rein in Bay pollution, and engages a diverse community of stakeholders to protect water quality, improve climate resilience, and restore habitat health.

The Development Associate will report to Baykeeper’s Development Director and work closely with the Executive Director to implement Baykeeper’s individual giving programs. The Development Associate will have primary responsibility for ensuring donor data integrity. The Development Associate will also coordinate online and print mailings, and execute fundraising and outreach events. The successful candidate will ensure smooth operations internally and excellent interactions with Baykeeper supporters and the public.

Responsibilities

The Development Associate position is essential to the success of San Francisco Baykeeper’s fundraising and communications programs. This person will:

Work extensively with Baykeeper’s donor database to update and maintain contact, contribution, and event records, and implement internal data-processing practices to ensure accuracy of all records.
Process online donations and enter offline donations from a wide range of sources and audiences. Produce timely, customized acknowledgement letters. Produce contribution reports for fundraising updates and accounting entry.
Coordinate mailings to supporters, including producing audience segments and mailing lists, and overseeing production for in-house mailings.
Assist in developing and executing fundraising and communication strategies, such as identifying appropriate communications for different audiences; helping plan and execute interactions with key donor audiences; and researching new potential supporters.
Help plan and execute fundraising events, including managing event logistics, online event pages, participant registration, and participant fundraising.
Build a monthly HTML email newsletter and regular email appeals and action alerts.
Coordinate social media integration with our email, online, and print interactions.
Manage volunteers to support in-office work and external outreach events.
Support Baykeeper’s outreach efforts to build relationships among Baykeeper’s stakeholders, particularly recreational users of the Bay such as boaters, swimmers, and paddlers.
Manage operational tasks for the organization as assigned.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

1-2 years of experience managing projects in a fast-paced, professional environment; experience in a development office is strongly preferred, along with an interest in gaining new skills in database management, event management, and other development operations.
Experience managing contact and contribution (or comparable) records in CiviCRM (or comparable system such as SalesForce or Raiser’s Edge), and a dedication to ensuring complete accuracy in contact, contribution, and event records.
Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and mail merge functionality.
Superior attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience executing events and handling event logistics such as vendor oversight and participant registration.
Experience interacting with external stakeholder audiences such as donors and volunteers.
Preferably, skills in HTML email building; Drupal (or comparable) content management system; and Adobe design software.
Willingness to take on a wide variety of tasks in a small nonprofit environment.
Demonstrated experience in nonprofit pursuits and demonstrated commitment to environmental protection.
Willingness to work occasional extended hours for events on evenings and weekends.

Compensation
