DESCRIPTION
Reality Changers transforms lives by providing youth from disadvantaged backgrounds with the academic support, financial assistance and leadership training to become college graduates. Over the years, Reality Changers has built strong relationships with individuals, foundations, corporations, school districts, and community based organizations to garner support for our vision of creating universal access to college.
The Development Director is responsible for developing a comprehensive strategy across all of Reality Changers’ fundraising channels in order to meet and exceed annual revenue goals and accountable for implementing the strategy. This person will manage and coordinate the fundraising efforts of the entire Development Team, including the President. This person will be expected to independently source and close on small to large gifts ($500k) and increase our funding base to create a sustainable future for Reality Changers.
The Development Director will report to the Vice President of Operations with supplemental direction from the Founder & President.
Responsibilities
1. Portfolio management, strategy, campaign management:
· Support the executive team to refine the overall development vision for streams of work in the strategic and operational plan to ensure that Reality Changers maximizes opportunities, meets its goals, and significantly grows funding while building long-term sustainability.
· Directly cultivate, steward, and solicit a portfolio of new and existing donors to secure gifts.
· Develop and manage annual giving campaigns for corporations and foundations.
· Create tailored pitches based on deep understanding of our donors; collaborate with communications team to produce written communications, verbal presentations, reports, and one-pagers focused on impact and cultivation.
· Institutionalize and streamline the process for grants.
· Operationalize strategies for fundraising that reflect: careful analysis of the opportunities and trends in the local philanthropic landscape; quantitative and qualitative data on donor motivations/barriers; and Reality Changers’ mission and organizational priorities.
· Analyze historical and market data to inform fundraising goals.
2. Cultivation and stewardship:
· Conduct effective donor interactions and communications (i.e., events, meetings, newsletters) on an ongoing and consistent basis.
· Develop efficient system for identifying org-wide donor cultivation and stewardship opportunities, including: developing a calendar of opportunities; tracking President and Board Committee initiatives and proactively identifying opportunities for donor engagement.
· Share the story of Reality Changers’ students, alumni, and impact to secure support from donors and prospects.
· Ensure timely processing and prompt acknowledgement of donations secured.
· Lead cross-stream stewardship projects, including publishing donor lists for annual report, website, mailings, and events.
· Lead the design and execution of individual, corporate, and foundation stewardship events including site visits, speech tournaments, Trivia Night, friend-raisers, etc.
3. Development operations and team responsibilities:
· Support with all development event-related planning and execution.
· Develop a comprehensive understanding of organizational history, impact, and vision in order to speak compellingly on behalf of the organization and communicate with stakeholders.
· Prep other staff solicitors/relationship managers (e.g. Program Directors) to conduct successful interactions with relevant donors.
· Leverage board members and other key constituents to reach fundraising goals.
· Work directly with the Board development committee to align Board members’ efforts with the broader development strategic plan.
· Manage Reality Changers’ database (Donor Perfect) in order to monitor progress and deadlines, ensure up-to-date donor information, and facilitate future engagement and partnership opportunities.
· Support, attend, and/or participate in all relevant team activities, including board and staff meetings, functional team meetings, site visits, annual organization events, etc.
· Perform additional duties as needed.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required.
· A minimum of five years of professional work experience is required.
· Experience in fundraising and development (private or nonprofit sector) with a successful track record of meeting budgets of $3 million or more. Demonstrated success personally cultivating, soliciting, and closing philanthropic gifts.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Experience with Donor Perfect and/or Salesforce is a plus.
· Experience working with corporate and foundation partners preferred.
· Experience working in education and/or low income communities also preferred.
· A valid driver’s license or reliable transportation to and from Reality Changers location and related events.

Travel and Hours
· Occasional travel will be expected.
· Some weekend and evening work will be expected.
