Aircraft Carrier Hornet Foundation preserves and honors the legacy of the USS Hornet, a national historic landmark, and its role in naval aviation, the defense of our country, the Apollo Program and exploration of space. As a modern marvel of technology for its era, the Hornet provides the ideal platform for public education in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), aviation, space exploration, naval history and topics of general historic interest. About the role’s Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer the Development Manager will:
Major Gifts:
• Provide in-depth support for CDO regarding major gift opportunities. • Assist Director of Development and Grantwriter/Prospect Researcher with the identification of major prospect of donor profiles • Engage new prospects • Generate major gift solicitations, advancing prospects from the Qualification, Cultivation, Solicitation and Stewardship cycle
Annual Fund and Membership:
• Provide direction and oversee the authorized, donor appeals (Annual Campaign, Annual Appeal, special project appeals, grant appeals, etc.) • Oversees and is accountable for the annual goals of the USS Hornet Museum’s individual membership groups. • Manages Annual Fund campaign, including mailing, follow up, and strategy to maximize both revenue and relationships resulting from it. • Communicate with donors and/or Hornet membership groups in order to maintain good relationships and further promote their involvement • Generate reports from the database for donation and membership, analysis and reporting • Create and manage donor collateral for individual, membership and corporate programs • Track and implement fulfillment of benefits promised to donors, members, and sponsors • Develop recommendations and implement new strategies for membership, Fundraising expansion and stewardship. • Lead the coordination in the Annual Reports • Work with our Development Intern in this area
Special Events:
• Provide planning and coordination and implementations of fundraising, solicitation and Special events • Fill out and submit event permits when required. Foundations/Corporations • Develop with the assistance of the CDO a portfolio of corporate donors. Steward and solicit them annually. • Assist the Grant Writer when needed on foundation proposals and research. Reporting • Assist the CDO with Board and Executive reports • Assist in the implementation of new databases and electronic membership records
Additional specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Duties as required by the CDO
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Business management preferred . A Master’s degree or MBA is a major plus.
• 4-7 years’ experience development preferred.
• Must have a high level of organization and attention to detail, experience in event management, schedule coordination and ability to plan and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills: listening, verbal and written.
• Ability to solve problems in an ever-changing environment; high degree of flexibility and adaptability.
• Must have an open, positive attitude and enjoy working in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment where a diversity of opinion is valued and encouraged.
• Strong computer skills (MS Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet) and ability to learn new programs when needed.
• Adherence to the Hornet’s strategic goals and core values a must.
• Must be able to deal effectively, politely, and interact productively with all types of people from all types of backgrounds and experience and in all types of difficult situations.
Working Environment: This is a full time, hourly, non-exempt position. The position will work out of the Alameda location, onboard the ship. This position may require local travel and may include evenings or weekend hours as needed for events.
Compensation: Salary that is offered is $21.63/hour.This equates to $45,000 per year. Employee shall be required to complete time cards.The USS Hornet Museum is an equal opportunity employer.
