Development Manager – Josephine Herrick Project

DESCRIPTION
The Josephine Herrick Project (“JHP”) is seeking a Development Manager eager to to work with a creative, dynamic, and award winning photography arts and activism education charity.
JHP is 76-year-old Manhattan based charity. Its mission is use photography to support under-represented individuals and communities express themselves and influence change in themselves and the world around them through its teaching programs and projects.
With a new management and governance team and out newly announced Lucie Humanitarian Award, JHP’s government, foundation and corporate prospect pool has grown and the organization is now looking for a Development Manager. The Manager will have the energy, ambition and growing experience to assist the Executive Director and Board to identify, nurture, and steward prospective and existing relationships and be an integral part of this small team.

Responsibilities
Working closely with the Executive Director:
Draft Foundation LOIs, grant proposals, and reports.
Draft new government grant proposals and reports.
Spearhead JHP’s new corporate fundraising program, including outreach and the drafting of sponsorship and funding proposals.
Implement strategies for donor development and engagement including:
Special events
Plan, write, and execute annual appeals and tailored communications to donors with specific interests.
Contribute to JHP’s communications efforts, including newsletters, the annual report, materials for fundraising work, and ongoing message development and branding.
Maintain donor and prospect files, and the annual grants calendar.

Qualifications
At least two years of previous experience of some government, corporate, and/or institutional fundraising.
Superb writing, communications, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
Highly organized and motivated, able to multi-task, manage a high volume workload, and have excellent time management skills.
Be flexible in a pressured work environment.
Prior nonprofit employment is a plus.
Microsoft Suite; database experience is a plus
Bachelor’s degree; a Master’s degree is a plus
Interest in the arts, specifically photography or in activist issues highly desirable
This position is based in New York City.
