DEVELOPMENT MANAGER oversees the logistics of The Lark’s growing fundraising program raising $1.6 – $1.8 million annually. As a play laboratory organization, not a traditional producing theater, Lark’s budget is 98% contributed revenue so this position is a crucial part of Lark’s fundraising team consisting of the Artistic and Managing Directors, the Executive Assistant, and outside support (fundraising counsel, and grants writers). This position is ideal for someone with an entry-level knowledge of and personal interest in development.

THE LARK is an international theater laboratory based in New York City that is dedicated to supporting playwrights and stories that that reflect the vibrancy of our community. We accomplish this by providing writers with transformative support—money, space, collaborators, audiences, partners—and the freedom to design their own processes of exploration. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the annual work plan and grants calendar for individual and institutional giving, including tracking and monitoring of all cultivations, solicitations, applications and reports
Drive weekly fundraising team meetings and annual planning meetings
Create work plans for all grant applications and reports
Oversee two annual appeals (both paper and electronic)
Draft numerous annual and one-time grant proposals and reports to private and corporate foundations, U.S. and foreign governments
Interface with individual artists and partner organizations in creating grants and reports
Oversee donation processing and acknowledgment
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
3 – 4 years professional hands-on experience in fundraising
Impeccable organizational skills and very detail oriented; ability to juggle many priorities and shifting work plans
Ability to manage up with a collaborative and respectful style
Ability to work in a collaborative environment, shepherding the process of grant writing
Ability to synthesize information from notes and conversations into well-crafted language for reports and corespondence
Multi-tasker in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Experience with fundraising database highly desired; knowledge of database architecture a plus
Development experience in theater or the arts a plus
Interest in new play development process a plus
